Check your serpentine belt, mine broke and went into the engine.

My serpentine belt broken on me about a month ago, didn't think about it too much. Went to bmw got myself a new belt and put it on. All was fine, drove it for few weeks then my throw a 2A87 and 3100 code. I searched the forum and got myself two new vanos solenoids. Then new exhaust cams sensor. Still having same code. Then more reading I found out I might be the victim who have the cam bearing ledge problem. So took my car to eurowerks in florida. They said mostly is the cam ledgs problem plus hook rings. Once they open up my engine. They found my old belt made its way into timing chain from the front crank seal, they are trying to fish it out now. Still wanting on update.

Don't know was it the belt cause those problem or just my luck.

so far the damage is front crank seal, new intake and exhaust cam bearing ledge plus hook ring. Looking at a $2000 bills.

Moe update on post 17

Thanks for the heads up brother!

I've been pondering on replacing the pulleys and such for a couple months now from a recent oil cap filter leak I had.

Through the front crankshaft seal. It gets pressed through there like playdoh.

Same thing happened with me. Dealership fished out the pulley out of the engine as much as possible but never ran the same after. Later bigger issues happened had my engine replaced 6 months later

Wow

It's kinda scary that you post this OP on the same day that I posted this thread regarding my car.

Damn, thanks for the heads up, bro. My car is at 106K and the belt is still the original one.

I'm going to order a new one and make sure I replace as a preventive maintenance, before it breaks and creates havoc.

I wonder if this affects the N55 engine in the 335?

Haven't seen one yet, however cant rule anything out. Good thread to keep people up to date with their maintenance habits.

As long as you have no oil leak from front crankshaft seal and no belt stuck by the seal you will be good.

I will check, but i know for sure that my oil filter and oil cooler gasket were leaking at the time. I heard that could slip out from it.

More update from the shop. I will need new camshafts. Camshafts were damage cause lack of oil. Now the question is will it be stupid idea to put a used camshafts in it?? Or I should put a brand new pair?

Good news is they were able to fish out my old belt.

It could happen again if the pulley is hitting, you need upgraded subframe, search here quite a bit of info

I read it was resolved after 08 model. Hopefully I'll just have to worry about replacing at a normal interval. Still, good thing to know about in case there's any weird symptoms down the road.

Started occasionally hearing belt chirp when I start my car in the mornings. Read around here and figured it was the pully not spinning freely because its bearings are going out and will probably lead to problems with the belt. Ordered the parts kit from Amazon (belt, pully, tensioner and bolt ) and a month later still haven't replaced. Just don't feel like working on the car. But you have motivated me, because I really don't feel like working on the car with the problems you got because of a snapped belt.

It is better to change it to avoid a expensive repair bill and headache that I am going thru now.
