How to get codes from limp mode

Hey guys,

so starting from about 3-4 weeks ago, I've pulled limp mode 4 times. Each time is WOT and there are no harsh misfires or anything. Normal temps, etc. Essentially smooth power up till limp. As it is with limp mode, it resets when the car is turned off. After the 3rd time it happened I decided it's time to get the codes pulled so I stopped by advance auto and they couldn't get anything because there were no active codes. Then I had a german shop pull the codes which also came up with nothing. Now, the german shop used an OBDII to USB into a computer software. Not entirely sure it was a BAV cable but the shop is known primarily for VAG.

Anyways, the dealer wants the 119 dollar diagnostic fee to pull the codes. screw that. What exactly do I need tool/procedure wise to get these codes from the history to find what is setting off limp mode?

Thanks,
Justin

I went to Canadian tire.. bought an OBD tool for like $250.. went outside the parking lot.. pulled the codes.. and then returned it no questions asked. Cost me 0 bucks

I call it student savings.

I have the exact same issue, But I can pull codes (Using my JB4 USB Cable) You must leave the car running, if you shut it off you lose the codes.

Im at work and cant remember the exact code, but basically the car just thinks somethings wrong, i cant figure out what yet. And it turns off the turbos.

I really wish i knew why it did this, Its happened to me 12 times or so over the last few months, only on WOT.

And nothing ever feels wrong when it happens.
