Mods in order of precedence?

My 07 335i is pretty stock, what is the e90 communities opinion on my first upgrades? I'm looking to get modest performance. I'm no track star but everyone just enjoys a little more "oomph." Would you recommend exhaust, tune, fuel or any others? What did you guys start out with and how did it work for you?
-Thanks

JB4 G5 and DCI (order together) makes it a completely different car and in my opinion, the best bang for the buck as I think its like $600 with the USB cable.

thanks for the input, are there any concerns with having this setup for daily driving?

Tune (I went jb4 and Wedge back end flash)
DCI (cheap and quick install)
Downpipes (VRSF makes a great product for the $$)

From there it's Fmic, chargepipe, suspension, exhaust, e85 meth and whatever you desire from there. Lots of room for Ideas and getting the setup you want. The tune is the best bang for your buck and might be all you have to do for your needs.

a tune will definitely be the best first option. u get more power, can read & delete codes, with jb4 hijack gauges, etc. u don't need the dci unless u want the air suction noise but its cheap anyways. and ur not tracking so no point in doing suspension stuff or lsd.

rather than a dci would it be better to just get a drop in? the jb4 has the deal to buy the dci for pretty cheap, so i figured it may be worth it? also how hard is the jb4 to tune? I know install is a pita but how about normal operation? is it "set it and forget it"

Had the exact same setup to start with as you.

My order was:

Cobb w/ dual cone intake
Blacked out grill (mine is Black Sapphire)
Blacklines w/ black emblem roundels
Vrsf downpipes and vrsf exhaust

I think that's all I've done for now, but the Cobb and DCI were BY FAR best bang for buck. Do that first.

And depending on mileage, I'd change the spark plugs if it's over 50k before adding the tune.

Start with a JB4 or Cobb and then work your way down the list of the numerous mods happily waiting to suck your wallet dry. Installing and using both of them is a piece of cake and everyone I know who owns one love it. If you want to know more, there's a lot of threads on this forum to better school you in the arts. Don't be afraid to use the search button.

I'd just go ahead and change the spark plugs anyways... I had my JB4 installed for a couple weeks and I needed spark plugs at less than 29,000 miles.

The DCI has proven to add power, it sucks in way more air than the air box which weighs out the cons of sucking in hotter air. Though people can debate that all day long and get no where... Its a cheap add on, does its job, and sounds great.

The JB4 took me less than 35 mins to install... Though I've done it a couple times. Its not a pain in the ass at all. Plus, as mentioned above, there are a lot of awesome features such as code reading and clearing, boost gauge hijacks, open exhaust flaps, integrated shift lights, cooling feature. Probably the most popular tune in terms of how many are in use and its also the cheapest by far. That was my first mod twice on two different 335i's.

I like the idea of being able to flash/unflash a tune easily and not having to deal with the piggy back install on the ECU so think i'm ordering a Cobb. Think you cant go wrong either way.

Great info, thanks.
So after the install of the jb4, what do i do from there? I figure it will have a program that i pop into the ol' dell and i can adjust settings or configure preset maps from there, or can i do all of this from the jb4 itself directly?

How many miles? If high, make sure spark plugs, coils, and injectors are all working great/new.

Jb4 can install and uninstall in 15 minutes. At least I've never struggled with it. Do some research and decide yourself but jb4 is by far the best for the price and function. If you prefer the Cobb style flash just get a BT cable and do some of the BB flashes or contact Wedge. Cobb IMO is too overpriced for the performance gains. To each their own though. The mod bug is hard to shake once you start

Nope. Just plug it in and start it up. Use your steering wheel controls (there is a guide for this) and set to Map 1, 2, or 5 (auto tune) and you're good to go. Just drive it around for a bit to adapt. You will see power gains immediately, but it will take a couple drive cycles to fully adapt. No laptop programing needed. It's 100% plug and play.

Actually, i wanted JB4 initially but then i read some things about track day limp modes and that's what scared me honestly. Idk if that's still a common thing or what or if it was just aggressive tuning at the beginning of the JB4 days when it was still in a development phase.

I've had two JB4 tuned 335i's and never had a problem aside from burning out my original spark plugs. I don't think this holds true in the day of the G5 board.

It's the newest board. I think it came out last year. I've never had any problems and I think you will find that to be the general consensus too.
