335is purchase consideration, feedback needed
Hello all,
I have been in the market for a 335is for close to 6 months now. These cars are limited in numbers and there haven't been many for sale in my preferred color combination, which is white over saddle. In the past week, 2 cars have popped up for sale in local cities and I think its time for me to make a move. The first car is a '12 with 21k miles. Mineral white over saddle. It has CA, NAV, premium, convenience and cold weather packs and the 19" 313 wheels. The asking price $43,777. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...C=CRTpdB306dyb The second is a '13 with 26k miles. Alpine white over saddle. It has CA, NAV, premium, convenience and cold weather packs. Standard 18" wheels. The asking price is $43,900 http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...72821034&Log=0 Both cars appear to be in great shape. Since they are both priced similarly, I would go for the CPO car first because it has the extended warranty. I know I have more negotiating power at the Fiat dealer although not much because it is newer (even though it has high miles for the year). In the past I have used Edmunds.com to price cars. I think its a recognized and reputable source. The '12 comes back at $40,026 in clean condition; $41,502 in outstanding condition. The '13 comes back at $42,831 in clean condition; $44,206 in outstanding condition. I am looking to get general feedback on both cars and especially from those who have purchased CPO cars in the past since I am not sure how much wiggle room I have. What's a good number to throw at the each dealer? |

I like the 19's on the 12 but 2013 had the lowest production numbers, somewhere around 750 coupes as I recall. If rarity is part of your purchase I would take the 2013.

Thanks. Wasn't aware of production per year, only total production. Also wasn't focused on per year year production really, although the mineral white on saddle is 1 of 16 DCT cars produced so that's pretty rare in itself.

Go with the 2012 with the 313s. Both have the 6spd so that is good. Production #s are indeed lower though with 2013's.

Go with the 2012...
1. Mineral White is smexy 2. Saddle is also smexy 1+2 = 3. Mineral + Saddle = super smexy 4. Lower miles...the numbers are not that important seeing how there's only 5k miles difference. The implications of that low number is what would make me think. (Look into why it's less miles. Did it fudge up a lot? Was it at a shop for a long time? Crashed? Etc.) |

Coming from someone with a AW/Saddle 335is, go with the mineral white. It is lovely, plus lower miles and 19's. Can't go wrong with either, but the subtle nuances really set them apart.

Thanks for your replies so far. The consensus is for the mineral car and I am in favor of its exclusivity, too! I'll update you guys on my conversations with this dealer.

this is such a personal decision, I can't see how anybody here can say one way or the other, it's up to the OP. I didn't follow the links but I'd get a stick not a DCT

2012 easy choise. It wasn't put into service until May 2014 so you'll have two full years of bumper-to-bumpery warranty and comp service up to 50k miles. Plus it's certified so two addional years of coverage up to 100k, that alone is worth $1700-$2300 on a used BMW and why the price is close to the 2013. Think you get special financing with cert car as well.
Besides other than the STD smoker's package on the 2013 no one will ever know the difference. |

Unless you have deep pockets and can stomach high repair bills, I would get the CPO, I have saved $2500 in repairs over the past few months on my 335i alone.

The first car. Its a CPO. 19" wheels.
Besides I dont like tints on cars. Look used. Mineral White is a beautiful color.

I like the 2012 in mineral white with the 313 wheels!
Both are amazing cars though and I'm sure you'll be happy with either purchase! Maybe see which one was maintained better? 15k oil changes are scary! But with under 30k miles on each car I wouldn't be too worried; just make sure you change the oil every 8k miles MAX!

Uhh, so am I the only one to notice that the description lists both as 6MT, but the pictures for both show the AT/DCT gear shift and lack the third pedal? Having said that, I'd totally want a 6MT.
