Just Bought an 07 335i!

In early 2011 I picked up a 535i with the sport and premium package. I was looking into a 2012 Camaro SS or an 09 335i at the time.
I fell in love with the 535i and couldn't pass up the 20-way adjustable seats.
My n54 in the 535 has been a phenomenal engine - apart from the Water Pump and HPFP, which are inherent weaknesses.
For the past few months I had been searching for a 335i/xi sedan or 535xi to take up to Colorado with me. I found a great deal on an e90 335i with 76k miles and the sport package so I went to check it out yesterday.
After about 5 minutes into the test drive I was in love with my next n54 engine! Hopefully this one is going to be just as reliable as the one in my 535i.

I will upload some pictures later. Looking forward to getting black grills, angel eyes, window tint, and hopefully black/CF window trim in the next few weeks! After that will come the bigger mods like Jb4, exhaust etc - all the mods I never felt necessary to put on the 535.

Anyone have experience with highly modded older n54 engines?
My 535 is oil cooled and I am a little worried that the 07 335 doesn't feature oil cooling. Should I consider an aftermarket oil cooler if I'm looking to push down in the 350-400 whp range?

Did you verify that it didn't have an oil cooler already? I'm pretty sure all manuals had them stock. I had the auto tranny on mine and it also had an oil cooler.

Oh interesting - I didn't even bother looking as I thought no 07 n54's came with oil cooling.
I have the Automatic trans in mine too, but if yours had it I guess I might as well check. On the 335i's its found in the driver side front wheel well, correct? Obviously not the oil cooler itself, but I'll go check for the slits in the wheel well. Hopefully mine was fitted with an oil cooler as well!

My 07 335i came stock with oil cooler as it has sport pkg. I believe only sport package early ones came with it then later they all did.

Yeah you're right. I checked the passenger side wheel well and its quite evident that mine is also fitted with the oil cooler.
I was worried about installing a JB4, exhaust, etc without first installing an oil cooler, but it looks like the car is ready for some serious mods!

If I'm not mistaken all models built from 03/07 and after, and that are equipped with sport pkg come with the oil cooler. For the xi's I believe u need sports pkg plus the upgraded wheel option to get the oil cooler.

Thanks for the answer! I always wondered what the exact month was when the sport package included an oil cooler as standard equipment. I know on the xi the sport package is only cosmetic, so that must be why they didn't come fitted with oil coolers. I wonder why the 18" wheels get you the oil cooler on the xi, but the sport package does not?
It doesn't seem like it would be a fitment issue. Regardless, I'm just happy mine has the oil cooler; its an essential item for twin turbo cars if you ask me - especially if you are going to be pushing the car at all.
