should i start modding?
Should I start modding my 07 335xi with 78,000km?
It already has the dinnan stage 2. So any bolt on would not get their full potential. How much hp and tq could be gained by a Cobb alone? And then with a Cobb, dp's, fmic, and intake? Sounds like $3000 for about 50hp above where I'm at now with the dinnan stage 2. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

The answer is yes, your car will be night and day faster than it is now. You will have close to 400 whp with those mods. And I'm not sure where you are getting $3k from unless you go out and buy the most expensive mods you can find.

Approximately $3k. Canadian dollar. Preferably new quality parts. Cobb $800, front mount $800, down pipes $800, intake $200. Plus anything I need to pay to have installed. Just a rough guess.
What would be my approximate whp now? |

Any time is a good time for modding.

Check with vendors here for a package deal to get more bang for your buck. If you want to save money, care about the tune portion and not really about the Cobb AP v3's better visual screen gauges/look/easier data logging capability then you can just get a v2 for around $450. The tunes are the same for v2 and v3. If you decide to stick with a Cobb AP v3 you can still get it cheaper than $800 shipped. For FMIC I recommend ETS or Helix in terms of quality and reliability. Price is high though. Budget minded shoppers are going for VRSF FMICs, which have good reviews and cost about half the price of ETS or Helix FMICs. Downpipes are just pipes, so I'd recommend going with VRSF since they have good reviews for quality and fitment. Price for them is around $450 shipped. The AWD version of the downpipes are more expensive than the RWD version.

Just got some stuff out of the way im about to start this route. Not sure if I should pool all my money and buy/install everything at once, or if I should go modular and install things as I get them.

After a little more research jb4 is the way to go.
Jb4 With dci and USB. $600 Vrsf downpipes $400 Vrsf fmic $450 So closer to $1500 for parts. Plus install of the downpipes. |

I am spacing out all of my mods so I can enjoy them. I'm worried if I do it all at the same time I'll get bored after a few months - instead I'm going to do 1 mod every couple months so I can feel the true power gains. First I'm going JB4+DCI in the next few weeks. Then I'll go DP's a few months later; FMIC a few months after that and so on. OP, I would highly recommend reading over this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=416797 With the meth and race gas you could put down close to 450whp which is about the max you can get from these n54 engines with the stock turbo's. Of course you can get more with NOS and other heavy mods, but it starts getting expensive. However, the n54 is capable of handling upwards of 750whp on the stock internals. I believe the world record for an n54 on stock internals is something like 725whp - with upgraded turbo's though! EDIT: Since you had $3k in mind, you should treat yourself to some Meth and the total bill will still be under $3k for nearly 430whp.

question you should be asking is can you afford maintenance on a modded car?... I have modded all my cars and its not just about slapping performance parts and enjoying the extra power you get. You also need to take into consideration the increase in cost for maintenance of the vehicle that its working a lot harder now with performance parts.
Modding is fun for sure , but not so much when things start to break down and you need to pay for repairs. It can also get addicting since you always want more power , specially with turbo cars. But if you can afford it , go for it ! |
