At what speed does VSS "disengage"?
I have VSS and I know it in effect at "low speeds" but does anyone know at what speed it no longer has an effect?
Just curious. Thanks. |

VSS is working all the time, servo assistance is variable like any other BMW servotronic steering. Changes with speed, normally follows a "characteristic curve" to match the character of the vehicle. The variable rack ratio part is mechanical, therefore giving exactly the same steering angles in all driving situations, whatever the speed. VSS has two settings (Normal and Sport) accessed via the driving experience switch. HighlandPete |

It never disengages, it's just that you're more likely to use it at "low speed" in a parking lot than making a 100 degree turn at 80 mph on the highway. I suspect that if you were on the track and taking a sharp hairpin turn at 60 mph it would come in handy.
