Would you consider an M6 over M4 if you had the extra $$$ ?

I've had 2 M3's and I'm leaning towards the new M4 when my current lease is over in 12 months but....although heavier, I'll take a look at the M6 and test drive it as well. I love the look of that car and the engine is a beast even though it hauls the extra weight...

I realize this is the M4 forum but has anybody here truly considered or drove an M6 or has seriously thought about getting one ?

I have a year to decide so any comments would be helpful...

My thoughts are that if I can afford an M6, I can afford some other pretty compelling performance cars such as a 911 S or GT3, a Nissan GTR, a Corvette C7 Z06. Or, going the other way, that puts you in serious bling category with entry level Aston Martin Vantage or Maserati Gran Turismo. It's hard to imagine the M6 would take my money over some of those other choices.

Now, I've never driven an F1x M6, so I would obviously do that before deciding on a car in that price range.

IMO, if I was not planning to take the car to the track or up into the tight canyon roads... M6 all the way. To me its a much nicer car, but also not as nimble.

However, if the oposite is true... M4.

You have to decide what you want and that will determine what to do, but certainly dont drive or even sit in the M6 unless you are a serious buyer, you'll not want to see anything less after the fact.

The M6 is certainly a beast, and you have to want to drive such a car each day because you'll be paying for it. I loved mine for the near 4 years I had it, but I was ready for a change after since at least in the S85 M6, the car was a true raw beast. It drove and sounded like such a monster that every day you drove it like a beast which = trouble. That gets to the crux of the decision, while the M3(M4) is awesome, it drives differently and you cant get around that. The M6 is big, and even though the M4 has grown, so has the M6, and you will feel the difference.
I dont think too many really cross shop though, as they are for different purposes, the M4 can be a great daily drive and track rat, but the M6 is pure luxury with crazy performance, and a bit of status for some.

Certainly anyone considering the M6 can consider the M4 based on economics (or crossshop as noted above), but usually its a different type of client, probably looking for some exclusivity as the M6 affords you that for the price of admission.

As for me, I'll be looking at the new M3 and M4, along with the 4er GC in a few years when Im ready for my next ride, but probably wouldnt consider the M6 at this point as its all down hill once you've owned the S85, no matter what the performance numbers show on the new car. BMW will never be able to replace the feeling that a NA V10 provided so I just got to pick something that feels good and remember how great it once was

If I were willing to spend M6 money, I'd buy some 911 variant instead. I doubt I'd even look at the M6. I'm sure it's a fine car but not what I would be looking for in that price range.

Exactly. But I'd get the M4 although a test drive would be nice before making the decision. Weight one of the most important key factors in picking a car for me and the M4 wins that. Plus the new tech in the M4 should be exciting

No way, M6 is a boat. It is very nice inside and out but I'm not a fan of such a huge two door.

I've always liked the M6 but always thought it was just to big. I'm glad the new M4 just looks a like smaller version of it. I'm looking forward to getting one.

Substituted M6 for M5 and M4 for M3 but you get the point...

Ablsolutely not. Price is not the issue for me. Been there done that with the bigger, heavier M5. When I have a larger family or value comfort over performance I may revisit the M5 but for the foreseeable future the lighter, sportier M3 is a far superior car for me.

M4 for me, but if I have the money to spend on a M6 I will go and buy me a Z8 over any other cars. I'm a BMW guy.

Same with most people here. If I had $120k+ to spend on a car, I would rather buy something else. M6 is not on my list.

I agree with the posts about being a bit too big for a 2 door but...I did drive an M5 a couple of weeks ago which got me thinking about the M6.

That thing was awesome on a straight line and on ramps on freeways it was like going on a roller coaster. Head snapping power is addictive. It did feel heavier on the curves compared to my last e92 coupe which I will forever miss but I expected it anyway. It still felt poised on the road and around curves but probably not as fun as my M3.

I'm not a Porsche kind of a guy as I've had 6 BMW's and am pretty loyal to the brand. But as stated above, the Z06 is an animal as well so it's on my radar as well. I just don't like seeing the Chevy emblem on the front....

Nope. Even though it's a gorgeous car inside and out, I just don't see the point of a big 2 door car. Given the size, if I needed room, I'd go M5 for the 4 doors, otherwise go smaller with the M4.

Now if I just wanted to spend that kind of money on a luxo/performing car, I'd look elsewhere also.

I just dont think I'd ever find myself in the market for a car that big with 2 doors.

Great vid of M6GC comparos where it was very favorable over the other cars (Jag, Merc). I like the combo of luxury and sport thats why I love the new M4. I would only cross shop the M6 with a porsche 911 S just to see the difference in ride quality vs the performance (which we all know the porsche would win) The M4 is the best combo of sport, and luxury in my mind despite the price tag

If you want an M6 you probably do not want an M4 and vice versa. You give up too much of each cars main strengths. One being handling and the other being luxury, elegance and status. I've driven the M6s and they are nice cars but not very agile and they do suffer some of the F cars isolation.

My great E92 was stolen July 2013. Sales of new e92 were suspended then so I found the M6 as a temp solution, a fully loaded demo car, 100 miles on the car, and 30% off list price. Yes, 30%. So I got it as temp solution untill I could get into an M4.

Why? Because it is big, heavy, and has TOO much power. Also, it is an M car, but we all need to realize that there are different renditions of the M concept.

To me, the M6 is a bridge between the E92 I loved and the M4 i was hoping to replace it with, and got lucky to walk into this M6 deal.

I suppose I could almost add the R8 for close to this price tag and that would make my choice even harder. I know they're different cars.

I like the new M4 but there's always a small part of me that wants to drive something different....

It all depends your needs, sporty for M4, luxurious tourer for M6. It's a little extreme to compare these two this way, but it all comes down to these 2 major points.

I would go for the M6 if I had the means, it has a presence on the road the M4 would probably lack. GC would be even better

I can imagine it to be a bit frustrating to drive an M6 in "Gotet". Not to talk about the attention from "Lanstrafikgruppen". Awesome for weekend trips to the riviera though

HA! You know this area? As soon as temp here falls to about 10 c, it is impossible to put power down. Tires don't gripp. Full power only possible in July, otherwise too cold
