My first autocross class win

I did an autocross with the local S2000 club yesterday. It was their annual winter event where we run the course in opposite directions in the morning and afternoon. Your fastest runs in each direction are added together to give you your final placing.

This club is my favorite and usually has the highest attendance and the stiffest competition locally other than SCCA. Crazy thing is, by their class rules, my car gets a 1.5 times displacement multiplier due to forced induction. So my 3.0 liter is considered a 4.5 liter

A couple days ago I encountered a P30FF code/limp mode running anything other than the stock (stage 0) map. It's still unresolved, so I went ahead and ran yesterday's event on the stock map. Also on stock suspension and wheels with Hankook R-S3s (225/40/18, 255/35/18).

I managed my first ever class win and placed 11th overall out of 67 drivers. Further proof for me that many of the common "must have" mods you read about on the forums simply aren't necessary to be successful. Here's my best two runs plus a few silly slides

Congratulations! Impressive. No easy feet besting S2ks! 225s up front even.

I agree with your last paragraph!

Driver mod is the most important lol. Congrats! But what do you use to measure the g's? I've always wanted one. And I've read on road-n-track that stock 335 only do 0.85g at the skid, I wanna test that claim myself.

Thanks, totally agree. Our cars no doubt have tons of potential when modded, I'm just saying for those who are hesitant to try an autoX or track day because they think they need xyz mods - just get out there and drive!

I'm using an AiM SOLO GPS to measure the G forces. I've pretty much figured out that my car is on the limit of my control at around 1.1 Gs on the R-S3s. Sometimes it'll register higher, but that's usually because the corner has favorable banking.

Man, you really attack those slaloms..

Also, a bit oversteery, no? Wonder if a square setup would help

Very nice, man!!! Congrats on the win. Just curious, do they follow the similar class structure as SCCA? What class does your car fall into with this group?

No, they're pretty different from SCCA. My car falls into class 3 with the turbo multiplier. They've also added an X class where anything goes.

- Rotary engine multiplies displacement by 2.0.

-Usage of forced induction multiplies displacement by 1.5. (This is in addition to the rotary multiplier, if applicable.)

Tires with a wear rating under 140 must use the R class.
- Class 1/1R is for engines under 2.3 liters, except Honda S2000 and Lotus Elise/Exige.
- Class 2/2R is for engines over 2.2 liters, but under 4.0 liters, plus Honda S2000.
- Class 3/3R is for engines over 3.9 liters, plus Lotus Elise/Exige.
- Class S2000 is only for Honda S2000 (usage of tires with a wear rating under 140 reverts to Class 2R).

As a side note, I figured out my P30ff code. The vacuum line running from my diverter valves to the throttle body had come off completely at the TB. No wonder the car wasn't even making 8 psi

Square would only add more oversteer

Right on. You ready for CoTA? I just installed some new R-S3s. I got a little over 10k miles of daily driving and some goofing around, 4 track days, and probably 50+ autocross runs on my outgoing set which isn't too bad. Also ordered a new fmic. Can't wait!

Yeah - trying to get everything to line up before end of march - getting new wheels on the APEC Arc-8 group buy that's going on right now - then tires

Have camber plates on order with ground-control - waiting for those to show up. When I get them and install, that'll dictate how much rubber I can put on the new wheels

Also waiting on availability from coolcarbon for brake pads - they say any day now

lots of balls in the air

my two runs at that event - on my fail-bag 225 UTQG 500 LRR Run-flat all season's
I'll have to go back and create a highlight reel that included the spins

Our cars have lots of potential.. I actually liked using my 335 for autox over my Corvette. The only mod I would recommend for our cars prior to consistent autoxing, would be getting more camber out of the front end. The outside edges of my front tires were completely shot after one event. The lack of camber in the front end stock is terrible.
