Xenon DRLs?

So being a Canadian by law I must always have my centre DRLs on... Which is crap, because they make my nice LED angel eyes look tacky.

I am currently looking at buying a vista harness so I can have daytime angel eyes without park lights, but my DRLs will still be on... What I am wondering is can I retrofit a H7 6000k xenon bulb in? Or is there a 6000k look alike that would work?

Searching hasn't yielded much, being that the rest of the world doesn't need these damn goofy lights on!

Look under the coding forum, you should be able to code your lights to work like the rest of the world.

Wow, I never even thought of that. Though part of me is curious if that might get tacked on as an additional charge if I ever get pulled over for something.

I'm pre LCI though, so I will still need that vista harness to run my angel eyes without park lights, yes?

Assuming by parking lights you mean the corner orange bulb, no you don't. You can code those out too.

You do run a risk of getting pulled over for it, but I doubt it as long as your angel eyes are on. Not 100% sure on the legalities and enforcement of laws in Canada.

By parking lights I mean the inner highbeam bulb.

Easiest way to explain is click on my car and look at the first picture. The orange makers are on, my angel eyes are on, and the halogen inner bulb is on. I want that inner bulb off or the same color as my HID's and angel eyes.

Oh, sorry for the confusion, we call the cornering bulbs in the states. I know they can be coded completely off when turning here, so I doubt you wouldn't be able to code them off or to cornering only. I'll try to find what values you need to change to be sure.

On the LCI models, the Angel Eyes are the DRLs so I don't think you'd get a ticket. Of course don't use that as a defense in court that some guy on the web told you it would be OK, but really, it should be OK.

Also lots of people buy vehicles out of the USA and drive them in Canada, and they don't even have any DRLs and I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket.

You probably won't get a ticket for not having DRLs, however you do need them to pass safety inspection in Canada, or at the very least, most provinces/territories.

Having said that, yeah coding would get your angel eyes to be the DRLs and other stuff.

I tend to believe this. Never really heard of anyone getting pulled over for not having DRLs. Hell when I had my e46 I didn't have em running for a couple years.

Hey yeah I had my corner lights coded off, but with my early build we couldn't code angel eyes as drls. So when I want them I just flip on the parking lights.
Not ideal but better than nothing, and they look great

What cable did you use for that?

I might just buy a FRM2, but I don't really want to if I don't have to.

Ah crap, I only see a $100 cable haha.

The cheaper ones are hit or miss. It's worth it on the long run for a quality piece because you can use it for repairs and future coding.

If I recall correctly, the DRLs on the pre-LCI cars were the inner bulbs (your high beams) just on low power. The angel eyes only go on when you switch your lights into at least parking light mode (first switch). If you can code off your corners, switching to the parking light mode should give what you want - only the angels as your DRLs. I would highly doubt you'd get a ticket for this as all modern BMWs seem to just use the angels as the DRLs now.

i had an 07 e90 and i coded my car to be able have the AE as DRLs. Also you have to make sure you have the FRM2 in order to have it done. mine had the FRM1 so i had to replace it for the FRM2.
