IPhone 5S operation with the adapter

OK, I've looked for this in the manual, to no avail at this point, and used the search function here. Can someone steer me to some info related to using my iPhone in the new M? If I'm using the wrong search term, pls put me on the thread. Thanks. I'm currently just linking up using Bluetooth...

Try search for ios 7. That should get you to what you need. Congrats on new M!

There's nothing to it, really. What specifically are you trying to figure out?

If you have bluetooth working, that should already be good for music via bluetooth audio and telephone functions.

You can get further functionality, and ostensibly better audio quality (though I can't tell the diff) by connecting your iPhone using your lightning to USB cable to the USB port in the armrest storage compartment. When connected this way you can use the BMW Connected Drive app to do a few more things (which are generally useless imho) as well as certain apps which recognize they are connected to your car and present their interfaces via iDrive (Pandora, MOG, Spotify, and others).

Is the doggone adapter supposed to hold my phone snugly? I can plug the phone into the car via USB via a lighting cord, but I thought the way this deal worked was that I'd snap it in, and the phone would be connected via a docking station-like scenario... That is really what I'm driving at AND how does the thing hold my phone from sliding to the right when I make harder left turns? I don't even have that figured out yet...

Just tested wife's iPhone 5S and it does not fit in the snap in adapter correctly. My iPhone 5 fits fine.

Looks as if it was not designed to fit the 5S curved sides.

Well, there you have it. I'm trying not to be too much of the Redneck Texan, (though certainly, this is who I am). Anyone have anything else here, or:

1. Am I out of luck?
2. You have a problem dealing with rednecks?... Or both...

Yo Tex, here's the thread I found helpful when connecting the iPhone. Worked for me. Hope it helps.

You may be out if luck with the snap in adapter and the iPhone 5S as far as 'snapping' it properly in place. However, connection via a lightning cable to the car's USB should yield the same functionality...minus holding into place of course.

I don't understand. 5 and 5s are same shape and have same sides. I have used both in my adapter and have had no issues with fit on either.

Maybe your wife has an iphone 5C. That's the one with rounded edges.

To quote a review article of the 5S:
"The iphone 5S looks almost exactly like the iPhone 5 did, including its razor-thin aluminum body, with flat back and chamfered edges. It even weighs the same feathery 112 g (3.9 oz). The only visible differences between it and last year's iPhone are its new home button, a dual LED camera flash, and two new colors (space gray and gold join the 2012 carryover silver)."

Stealth-

This is what I was thinking when I originally posted my question. I think half (or probably more) of my issue is user error. I couldn't find any info on it it the owners manual. How do I make the thing "hug" the phone?

With my 5S the fit is tight. Once it snaps in (you push it down and the clip moves up to accommodate it and then snaps back over the phone). The phone won't move around, it's gripped by both the lightning corrector and the snap in clip. Plus the sides also grip the phone in the corners. Are you sure it's a 5S you are using?

Dang StealthPilot, you're right. She does have 5c. Yeah, no reason why it shouldn't fit.

I don't think he got it too fit. He just realized it doesn't fit because his wife has the 5C not 5S.

When Apple launches the 5" iphone next year then I don't think the car will accommodate a dock for a phone that big either.

Hello stealth.pilot,

Here are some pictures of a iPhone 5-5s cradle I just picked up for my Wife's '14 X5 5.0. This is the "new" model with the fan installed.

FWIW - In my '14 M5 I have the older model that has no fan. I've had no issues with it; however living in Southern Utah on 105F days the phone does get hot but does not stop working. I have an AT&T 5s that I leave in the car cradle at all times and another AT&T 5s that I carry. On several occasions I will forget my carry phone and then at least I have phone in the car as backup.

It may seem obvious; however you must pull out the blank that comes with the car from the factory in order to install the cradle.

Two solutions Garbageman,

Sync via blue tooth OR put your phone in the cradle (see my last post) and it will automagicly work!
