Problem with a friends e90
Hi
Long story short my friend recently bought himself a e90 320d or 330d, cant remember which one. 57 plate le mans blue very nice looking car. However he is now experiencing issues with starting the car it doesnt seem to tick over even tho it clicks, he had it dyno'd and it showed following errors - Glow plug cylinder 1,2,6 Rail pressure monitoring on engine start. I am not familiar with those codes its thrown up so wondered if any1 can help with this. He did mention that even though the car doesnt start all headlights etc seem to work fine and it starts up when jump started but generally dies overnight and its a intermittent problem. Thanks for any feedback in advance which i can pass on to him. (Might save him a few quid) |

Dead battery (mine was dead when I purchased the car as well - did not even charge properly therefore it was unable to start the engine after being parked for a few hours) and 3 faulty glow plugs (according to your info.).

First thing to try will be a new battery followed by a new glow plug module, if its struggling to start and running rough.. |

No probs i will let him know, i did notice that even if when the car doesnt start the interior lights etc and headlights light up fine and once jump started if its turned off it does start back up.. Thats why i thought there was no problem with the battrey and alternator. Its only when left over night it doesnt start.

More likely that the 3 glow plugs need to be replaced and the module is OK. My 320D showed 3 out of 4 plugs as faulty but the module was fine. As I understand it, a bad module would cause error codes on all of the glow plugs.

A fault can be showing on 1 plug and it be the module. Also different faults can be flagged up too. for example, activation fault, which is module too. |
