Auto headlights not so auto
Does anyone's auto headlights really work? Ie off during the day and switch on during the dark days?
Whenever I set mine to auto they only ever come on and that's on the nicest of days in the brightest of sunshine! I've also coded it to add the 3 stage sensitivity option in the BC control and when this is on its lower setting it still doesn't seem to have an effect. |

I have a similar problem. Tried playing about in the idrive and it came up with different sensitivity settings but didn't seem to make any difference. There is a daylight running lights option which when turned on to auto means they are always on. If that's off and they still come on then we're in the same boat! My old e39 and e46 had them and they worked perfectly - on a sunny day driving underneath trees you would have them turn on and off for a pastime!

In theory the screen should always be clean over the sensors as they are within the arc of the wipers....

i have an E90LCI 59plate and i also what to know about this...
when i have the switch on 'auto' as soon as the ignition come on so does the dip beam. my friend has an E90LCI on a 10plate and when his is on the 'auto' setting, if it is bright the light are just on sidelights (angel eyes), as soon as it starts to go dark or going through a tunnel ect they automatically go on dipped beam.... we can stand there and put our hand over the sensor and they remove it and they switch between... |

I had a similar thing happen on my previous car (Insignia) and it was a faulty light sensor which once replaced was fine.
I've noticed this week my lights being on all the time but bear in mind it's almost the shortest darkest day with the light levels at their lowest plus its been generally overcast and dull. I will see how mine behave over the coming months before getting BMW to take a peek. Jon

When my lights are turn off the halo's are still on (which I like), when I put the side lights on it doesn't change except the outer rings get a tiny bit dimmer, which I presumed was because power was going to the rear lights as well, then lights on xenons come on with the halo's obviously still on.
Is this how it's meant to go?
