shit happens.. you'll be fine. just learn and move on. You're parents insurance should cover it. You'll end up paying your deductible and your insurance might be a little higher than normal for the first couple years. just keep in mind driving is no joke

Well, I'm glad you're okay. To be honest, you are at fault in the accident. You pulled out into a lane and you should yield to the oncoming traffic. It would have been better to just wait until it was completely clear. However, take it as a learning experience for when a situation like this occurs again! Anyway, in terms of the insurance, yes they will cover the car. Insurance follows the car not the driver. There will be a deductible to pay. You wont get your license taken or any points. and accident is an "accident" it could happen to anyone! ...Its a great learning experience, look at it that way as opposed to you've done something wrong.

I have a newborn and this is what I'm afraid of. But here's how I'd look at it.

Nobody was hurt, thank goodness.

The 17 y.o. acknowledges that he was stupid. Definite plus.

Pretty much all's well that ends well.

Car damaged? Sure, but how is that any different than losing 40k on a stock? We get over it, eventually.

At 17, if a lesson is learned and a more serious fender bender is avoided, that's winning.

Beat yourself up, you deserve it. But realize this is part of the learning process, and if you learn now, you will definitely be ok in the future. Good luck. p.s. I do believe that all drivers in a household should be listed, so maybe the insurance co. denies the claim and drops the policy....but I doubt it. Just like you can loan a car to a friend (but they don't live with you)....

Hey, its a good opportunity go to M-sport now.. sorry just trying to dig some humor out of the situation..

being your age I'd be pretty frustrated if that had happened and the other vehicle didn't stop.. one thing I've learned driving the short amount of time I have is to refrain from ballsy turns at 3-ways/4-ways. Things go by just too quick to allow for a margin of error. if the car itself is on our insurance you should be fine.. good luck!

Glad you're OK, and lesson learned.

As for license, probably just points and a moving violation ticket(s) b/c it does sound like you are at fault. However enough of those then they may suspend your license.

As for insurance, if you reside in the same household and are related, you may need to be a named driver on the policy of that specific vehicle for the damages to be covered. This does vary from state to state and may also be policy dependent. The insurance co will let you know.

Side note: Give a 17 YO a $60K+ car?? Not hating, but are your parents interested in adopting, per chance? ;-)

Glad you're alright.
Your parent's insurance rates will go up. You shouldn't have anything else unless you were at fault and charged for that.

when you say "just keeps going!", are you implying that the driver of the truck fled the scene?

Ahhh, that sucks. I have done similar things, but usually with a beater. On the bright side, doesn't sound like the truck was damaged any, so no cost there because it was your fault.

The truck probably changed lanes between the time you saw it in the middle lane and when you started your turn. In those situations, try to make eye contact with the oncoming driver before you pull out. If they are looking at you, they are aware you are moving into the lane next to them and they probably wont change lanes in the middle of the intersection. If they are checking their sideview mirror or something like that, it is a sign that they may be moving into the lane you are pulling into. So you don't move.

It could've been even worse, so glad you're ok.
Mistakes happen and I think you'll be much more cautious from now on.

Sounds like the truck fled the scene....sketch. Anyway this is a good lesson to never be in a rush to get anywhere, the 1-2mins saved is not worth it. Glad you came away unharmed and learned, those are the most important things.

I had a '90 corolla at 17.

If the truck fled the scene, can't you report a hit-n-run?

Your license is fine and the insurance will cover it. However, your parent's insurance premiums will shoot up +20-30% unless their insurance gives a "one time forgiveness" thing. Also, if it's reported as a hit-n-run, the insurance rates may not increase. LULZ

You're an immediate family member and underage so insurance should not be an issue in terms of coverage, should your parents choose to go through insurance to repair the car. Your parents will see a huge hike in insurance premium if they use them to fix the damages. Regardless if they speak to insurance about the accident not, tell your parents to make a 15 minute call and add you to their insurance before you have to pay for someone else's damages out of pocket. Accidents WILL happen.

i could be wrong but i believe that you wont be considered at fault since the other party was not located. This should fall under a comprehensive claim which may or may not affect your premium.

I think huge hike is one of those urban legends. People get into accidents every day. It's as if you should never file a claim. My brother got into an accident where he was at fault, and the insurance for he and his wife went from around $700 to $930 per 6 mos. Of course, we all want to pay the least, so that's $460 per year down the drain. But it's nothing to get all scared and afraid about, life happens.

The bigger question imho is why someone in the household was not listed on the policy (obviously because it would cause the rate to go up)? And how serious that is..

p.s. I love those cookie cutter homes in the background, our friend had one but was divorced so she said way too big a hvac bill for herself and kids. She said sometimes 1k/mo. wth?

700 to 930 per 6 months is about a 25% increase in premium

I would consider that a 'huge hike'.
