Something is not right at the back [Help please] Maybe fixed!

Ok a little bit of background info.

For a few weeks I have has what I thought was a balance issue on the NSR bit of wobble through the seat 70 and above , was getting new tyres anyway so lived with it for a couple of weeks.

Got the new tyres fitted [ Dunlop SP Maxx ] and the issue is still there. Also , when accelerating hard it feels as if that side of the car is [ its hard to explain ] feel's like the whole corner of the car is loose, car seams to squat down and looses traction very easily throwing the car sideways as if struggling for grip.

Need to get this sorted so any suggestions where to start would be great.

Cheers and a Merry Christmas to you.

Leaky shock absorber maybe?

Most likely some play in the bushes in the rear suspension!

Give it all a good wobble with a pry bar!

I had a similar issue when I changed tyres. It felt like the car was weaving ant the steering wheel was being pulled about. Not sure if that is the same but it was the tracking and alignment severley out.

Will have a look at the weekend and try to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.

This is quite severe Nick, if I pull out of a junction turning right, it feels as if the back end on the passenger side is squatting right down.

Broken NSR spring ? If you have a stiff ARB, will look reasonably level , but will squat that side under load.

Sounds plausible mate. Got some new springs on the way.

Sounds suspension related, give it a good bounce and see how it compares to the other side. I’d say knackered shock. Also worth considering alignment. Hit any big potholes recently?!

Not that I can recall Greg, maybe it's just wear, car has done 80k now.

More than likley a goosed shocker but if these are anything like E46's - the springs are notorious for snapping too, although not sure a snapped spring would present quite as severe issues as a knackered shock

I had a similar issue on my E46 Coupe, it had all sorts of suspension problems and tramlined like nothing I'd ever driven before, but the problem like you describe ended up being a seized brake caliper believe it or not.

Although admittedly in your case I would think it's probably a snapped spring.

Good luck with it!

I guess that is possible, the way it looses grip when I hit the loud pedal sounds about right. Would that explain the feeling of the wheel be unbalanced?

That sounds nasty, think the brakes are ok, its mainly when there is any weight transfer.

So I bought some Apex springs off of G-10 on here.

They needed a bit of a makeover and Apex yellow is not in my plans.

So i thought, we modify everything else, why not these

Clean

Acid etch primer

First coat

Top coat and done

Hi Sparky,

Interested in the outcome of this as I am sure I have the same issue myself. Been to two indy's, both had a look and prodded around but said all seemed fine. However it still did not feel right to me, I started thinking I was being to picky and imagining things that were not there until I read your post.

Cheers,
Eddie

Mechanic has had the car today, no play anywhere! Annoying, damper maybe? Would that cause the "wheel out of balance" effect?

Don't know, possible but not sure that would account for the other effects.
