Just thinking here. Say something expensive were to happen to your out-of-warranty car. Say your turbocharger blows up sending bits of turbine blades into your engine, turning it in to a useless lump of metal.

What stops someone from having their car recovered to their house, taking out a warranty, then claiming on it?

Ahhhhh, I just realised those tricky lab-coated Germans have designed software for the car that writes fault codes, presumably also with the time and date, into the car so technicians can get it.

I am wondering if I should get this warranty. So far the car has been in for some minor warranty repair about twice a year. So get a warranty with zero excess as on the balance or probability, the car will go in for fixing once or twice.

The "named component" warranty seems to cover most things which are likely to go wrong incl stuck window motors and heater fans?

I went for the comprehensive one with maximum excess of £250 and no emergency service to cover my 335d for £323.

I figured that if it's a problem <£250 I can afford that, and wouldn't claim. Also I get AA cover with my bank account already.

Peace of mind for a pretty good price, covering the major things from a complexity/cost point of view.

And yes you can't claim on pre-existing faults and they enforce this via the 30 day rule.

Go for the proper BMW one.

I ended up claiming for timing chain wear @ 108k miles. No problem and that one claim took me up to the claim limit of £5k

No quibble either.

I just renwed mine from the AUC one. £41/month including the breakdown cover. £100 excess. I'd not own one without a warranty. The labour costs are so high around here anything that takes a few hours costs a grand.

If you trim the breakdown and excess and go driveline/named only I think you can get the cost down quite a bit. I took the breakdown as I don't have other cover and it's not that expensive at £70/80 or so and it covers Europe which is handy too.

The private companies often ask you to have a vehicle inspection prior to warranty beginning if it is an expensive car.

Does the ECU log dates of when a warning light comes on? Wouldn't they be able to read it and work out it was old damage?

I've used it a couple of times and never had any issues.

It covers injectors, unless you get Driveline only

I got a free fully comprehensive one year Warranty wise warranty on my car when I purchased it in August. I haven't had cause to use it yet and hopefully wont need to ever make a claim.

Has anyone else had any experience of a warranty wise warranty..?

Also when I try and get a quote on bmw-warranty I get the message "Please check that you have supplied the correct vehicle registration number." Why do think that could be..? Car too old for an online quote maybe..? (2006)

I decided to renew my BMW warranty. Full cover and £100 excess. Great peace of mind and they have been great at sorting issues in the past.
