A "what premium RFT" tyre thread
Car needs 4 x new tyres.
I've always used Continental Sport Contact 2 RFTs up till now. But since all four tyres are up for changing at once, I think I'll try something different. My options are: CONTINENTAL SPORT CONTACT 5 PIRELLI PZERO PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 MICHELIN PILOT PRIMACY HP Another option is this, which is marked as an all-season tyre but has an EU "C" rating for wet-weather performance, which is a lot better than full-on winter tyres which often have a poor "E" rating for wet weather performance. VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 3 Eyeballing the tread pattern, the Conti Sport Contact 5 seems to have the least wet weather friendly tread of the lot (although it looks better than the Sport Contact 2s I have on now). Any ideas? |

CSC 5s are a great tyre
The non run flat even better. And wet weather grip sensationally good compared to the RE050s (And I imagine quite comparible to the CSC 2s which they of course replace)

Why do you even have a BMW though Jase.
Refuse to put good summer tyres on Refuse to use winters What else wouldn't you waste your time with in order to make the ultimate driving machine actually worth driving?

I don't think its fair to just say that expensive tyres are the only good ones. You pay a brand premium for these things but they can still be bad. Kumho's actually seem very good as do Vreds without the ridiculous price tags of Pirelli, Bridgestone et al.

Kumho's and yokohamas are just as good as premium brands at 60% of the price! (It's not as if id say put linglongs on is it) You seem to think your beemer is some sort of ferrari! (Guess what it's not and its not the ultimate driving machine either) |

To be fair I don't think the 'ring is what most would consider "normal" wet weather driving I don't have experience of the CSC2s but I know my 5Ps are very very good in the wet. I've gone through almost every top brand at some stage or other and wet weather performance wise think they do better than every premium tyre I've tried ...

I'm half tempted to try the VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 3s.
Mainly as I've never used a winter/all-season tyre before and these are all-seasons, so they could stay on all year. They seem to have the best reviews of any all-season tyre..... but maybe they still could be crap? Is it the best of a compromised bunch? Also they are only V-rated, so limited to 149mph which could be limiting on those trans-Euro motorway trips...... To clarify my usage: - if it snows I stay home or drive carefully on gritted roads only - wet weather performance is important - being able to use the full potential of the car is dry weather is also important |

Kumho get pretty poor reviews. According to reviews good grip when new but noisy and wear very quickly, what's your experience?

In my previous car, a 320D, i didn't worry too much about tyres either. Obviously didn't get budget tyres.
Now however i have a 335 so its more important having good rubber. Hard to describe but the forces are much greater, so tyre performance is all the more important. My current tyres are Vreds. Can't fault them. Grip is great. However for my next tyres, i'm going to try Michelin PSS or Conti 5Ps. I'm leaning towards PSS as apparantly the wear is better than the Conti. |

The Conti's are very soft, I can vouch for that ...

a car doesn't have to be a ferrari to deserve premium sports tyres!....i think that the "sportier" the car ....the more it deserves a proper premium tyre.... if you drive very slowly, and not on the motorway, u'd probably be "ok" with linglong tyres.... fuck me, u'd probably be "ok" in a ferrari with linglong tyres if ur driving slowly.....but who the fuck buys a ferrari to drive slowly??????????? I think a 320 should be at least on mid range tyres...just my 2p anyway... |

Exactly what i said
Mid range Kumho / falken / toyo / yokohama / avon / uniroyal Used all the above tyres and imo there is no noticeable difference between any of the above and premium tyres. I would never run budgets! They are lethal |

I would tend to disagree
But then again different sizes / widths / speed ratings / cars make a difference to how they use the tyre So each to their own I'll keep my mid range and my bank balance |

I found on my former e92 goodyear eagle f1 were a good mix between value and performance, they were non-rft and much more comfortable Last edited by dazzapb; 11-27-2013 at 04:58 PM.. |

Fair point but with 600+nm of torque (more than Ferrari hehe) on 335d I'll stick with premium. Infact I would say all bm's but that's me
