Question Had BMW OEM factory fitted wiper blades for 8 years - when do I change?

When I lift them up they are a little "floppy". How do I know when to change and does my number of years indicate a change yet? Which ones to get please? And best place to purchase - guessing a set will be around £30.

I would have changed them by now!

Every 2years I change them roughly!

I would buy a Bosch replacement wiper!

Why didn't BMW Service / MOT point out to change them? Bosch Aerotwin?

I used to change every couple of years, but these BMW blades seem really durable. 8 years is very impressive though!

Change them when they need changing? They don't expire after a number of years if they're smudging & you have already cleaned the blades + windscreen then replace.

My last set I bought straight from BMW as Bosch replacements from ECP wouldn't fit my LCI E92. Whether its the same for your car I'm not sure but it saved me the hassle going straight to the dealer.

Edit: New set cost me roughly £30.

When they no longer do what wipers are supposed to do - clear the windscreen so you can see where to point the car.

Any help?

As said, probably should've been changed by now.

When they make a noise and don't clear the screen well is usually a good indication to change.

Question

Perhaps it doesn't rain when I drive as much, they seem to wipe okay but in heavy rain maybe not that good; I use rain-x and that smears when the window is wiped.... Putting BMW 3-series E90 Saloon into the following sites I get different results for Bosch Aerotwin:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...PartsMMYS=Find

Bosch Aerotwin Flat Set A980S 24/19 (£31.99)

http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/bmw-3-s...-wiper-blades/

Twin Pack
24" (600mm) & 19" (475mm)
Side Pin Fit
Flat Wiper Blades
Code: A073S
(£28.42)

How come the code is different: A980S v A073S?

I used to run Bosch, then Rain-X. The Rain-X blades worked well, but now I am back to BMW and those top them all.

I meant I use Rain-X rain repellent; didn't know they do their own wipers too. Saw bluecol wiper blades - 24 inch and 19 inch for £7 each.

Are the Bosch Aerotwin still better as they are dearer?

The BMW ones are just Valeo Silencio?

If the OEM BMW ones have lasted 8 years then surely that's your answer, to replace them with genuine BMW items. I paid £35 for the pair from my dealer.

Give it another 10 years and then see if you REALLY need to change them at that age.

I got the Aerotwins; on pre-LCI the wiper covers don't fit - seem better but I'll have to experiment with the original ones someday to see how much better.

They may look like covers but they actually stop the wipers from coming off. Why didn't you just get the OEM ones

Wiper covers fit fine on the Bosch Aerotwins on my pre-LCI e90 no probs. You must be doing something wrong?

Blades were 24 quid the pair via eBay.

Everyone (not just BMW owners) and all the magazines like Auto Express report that Bosch Aerotwins are just THE best? Mine haven't come off yet...

@a11y Click here:
http://rb-aa.bosch.com/boaa-uk/Categ...&publication=1

View Wiper Blade Catalogue 2012-13 see page 15 for BMW E90 year 03.05-08.09:
http://rb-aa.bosch.com/boaa-uk/kidow...&type=download

Set AM980S consists of AM24U driver / AM19U passenger side) in the ? column says "2, OAM".
Go to the key on page 40: OAM - Original plastic cap cannot be mounted.
Which is the same info on back of the box.

Actually face-lift / LCI occurred September 2008 (=09.08) so maybe that's a typo (month number and year number swapped accidentally) on the box and catalogue?

Set A073S also E90 year 03.05-08.09 but not OAM - perhaps you've got this?

From first link:
Note for Aerotwin product numbers:

ARxxxS --> Aerotwin for retrofitting
AxxxS --> For vehicles with Aerotwin in original equipment installation

A073S would be "For vehicles with Aerotwin in original equipment installation".

Not sure what the difference is!

The wipers didn't change for the E90/91 LCI models straight away. The wipers changed in late 2009 at the same time the heated seat buttons were moved into the climate unit.
