Headlight unit failure or normal?

My M5 has LCD headlight units and today I noticed a small patch of condensation on the inside of the glass, right by the section that has the BMW Adaptive signage.

I haven't used the car for 4 days and the outside temp is 8 degrees.

Question: is this normal or are both units faulty?

They might not be sealed properly if there is condensation. I'd tell the dealer to take a look at them.

Red face

My LCI did this too the first time I washed it on a cold day. It's something I'll keep an eye on but not too bothered at this point unless it gets worse.

Garage List
This was considered normal with Xenons.

I will keep an eye on it to see if it develops further.

The light unit is not air tight or you would not be able to change the bulbs. The condensation is caused by water vapour in the air inside the lighting units and is not in itself a problem unless it damages electrical connections or starts any kind of corrosion or mildew infestation. It should go away with warmer weather, but if not have the lamp units checked for water ingress. A hair dryer will usually dissipate the condensation itself but will obviously not resolve any underlying problem.

Ah...that makes sense.

I've done a bit if driving with the lights on and it seems to have improved.

Will keep an eye on it just in case

Agreed its not air tight. Just take it in as its under warrantee and they should replace w no questions asked. You don't want to be somewhere where failure could happen when you need those lights.
