tires for strip and street

I am going to replace my run flats on my new 335GT - We will be taking the car to the 1/4 next spring after some mods this winter. I want to put on tires that give me the best of both worlds - ie a good traction tire (live in the NE) for both bad weather and the strip. I also would like to go to a staggered look. Any and all suggetions appreciated. I will be using the 18inch rims that came with the car

There is no tire that does all of this. Winter (snow) tires plus an ad08/re11/starspec for warmer seasons.

I've got to agree with pkim - there's no tire that's good at a drag-strip/track that's also good in the cold. The absolute best solution is to get summer tires for when it doesn't suck, and winter tires for when it does. Even if you have to use the same set of rims and get them mounted and un-mounted each season.

If you have to compromise and get an all-season, I would probably get the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric.

Also, you said "go with a staggered look" - I assume that means the rims you have aren't staggered (i.e. are 8" front and back in stead of the 8" front 8.5" back of the stock staggered 18's). If so, don't put different size tires on the front and rear - it doesn't do anything productive. If you want more meat on the back, do what a lot of us have done, replace the 225/45/18's with 245/40/18's on all four corners. They fit on the 8" rims, you'll keep the handling balance more neutral, get more tread out back, more grip up front, and you'll still be able to rotate the tires.

And if you want to really cause some damage at the drag strip, you could probably get two 17" rims over the rear brakes and with the right offset, you might be able to get some Hoosier Drag Radials 275/40 or 315/35 or so in the fenders.

thanks for the input - I am going to try the 245 40 18 tire front and rear - looking at brands now - - decided to see how the run flats that came with the car perform in the winter - it they are ok will go with high performance summer tire in April when the track opens - and just rotate back in the late fall - really do not want to have to change rims every track day- do that now with the mustang and one is enough

I use Bridgestone RE-11's during the warm months on the street and on the track. They're very well mannered street tires and stick like glue on the track.

One set lasts about one season - rotate them front to back frequently to balance the shoulder wear, at least until we can get some reasonable negative camber out of the front-then it won't be a big deal.

When you said one season - how many miles on the street and about how many runs at the track ie drag strip or where you running road course

About 10 auto cross events of about 10 runs each, a couple of road-course track days of 4 20 min sessions each and about 9000 road miles

I didn't do any drag strips on these

thanks - I will get a least two seasons since I only do 1/4 drag racing and about 4000 miles on the street from april to oct

tunes

also noticed that you had the bms level 2 tune - how do you like it and have you had the car on the dyno to see what the torque and hp are - I saw what they publlish as results but being a tuned mustang driver also I am very suspect of pusblished numbers by the maker of the tune - but if the numbers are close then that tune is pretty amazing.

I like it

Haven't had it on a dyno yet, haven't really felt a need to, but I would believe the dyno numbers. Lots of owners have dyno'd and confirmed the gains.

Terry keeps updating the rom on the tune to tweak this or add that. The different maps are extremely flexible, it integrates with their meth injection system if you decide to do that. It can trigger nitrous as well if you really feel like breaking something. Really there isn't a better bang for your buck power wise - there just isn't

thanks - I am installing Nitrious on Mustang this winter but with all the safety stuff and only 100 shot - never on the 335 - wife wants to just have fun beating the boys in the 12.5 bracket - have already talked to bms and will install tune early spring along with charge pipe
