Spoke with my dealer today
Not much new info here but I did hear from my dealership today. I was told that in approximately 10 days, I should be getting a call for spec. He said they would be getting a total of 15 cars for the entire year. He confirmed that production would begin in December. Anyone else hear anything similiar?

If you are able to spec out your M/// in 10 days did your dealer give you any pricing info. This would come in handy when choosing options, if so could you share this info with the rest of us?

He didn't say anything about spec'ing it. I would imagine prices should be coming in the next couple weeks, though. I'll keep you updated.

Allocations
Guys, I think all of this talk by dealers (in many cases large dealers in major metros) that "we will only get 5 cars in 2008" or in this case 15 cars is PURE BS. The numbers simply do not add up. A quick "back of the envelope calculation" shows us:
50000 cars/300 dealers/6 years ~ 30 cars/dealer/year. This is for an "average" sized dealer. Sure there will be a lot of variation around this average number. Some of the smaller dealers in less populated states will likely only do < 5 or 10 M3s per year but for typical dealers these numbers are pure BS. I think they are underestimating (or perhaps lying outright) to make the supply seem low, hence demand high. |

Is 300 dealerships a rough estimate? Or did you find that somewhere?

BMW is projecting 100000 units for the entire run, and they have disclosed that 50% of them will make it to the US. If you look at Swamp's calculation you'll see that he is factoring in a 6 year production cycle.

Funny
That is funny to me since BMW has not officially announced the availability of M-DCT and it certainly has not appeared in the leaked US spec/option list. So I take your statement as meaning he listened to you, probably threw the paper with his notes away and will call you much later when we all get word that you can actually order an M-DCT car.

I just spoke with my CA, and he said that he has placed a "mock" order in the system. While I don't want the car loaded w / options, he placed it like that. He said this will pretty much guarantee getting a January allocation. Once he gets an official allocation slot, we can then amend the order to what I want. Also, no pricing but he offered up that pricing will probably be available next week after the sedan makes its official debut in LA. I didn't let on that that was old news thanks to m3post.com!

Nothing from my dealer. I am starting to grow tired of their apathy. Or perhaps it is all in my head.
