Awesome test drive in 428i today!
I stopped by my local dealer today to test drive a car with the N20. That car happened to be a 428i m-sport. WOW! As someone else mentioned, the engine note was phenomenal and this car's torque was plentiful. However, you can tell that its no 335i when on the highway at high speeds. With that said it is more than adequate for a daily driver. The client advisor that I had was awesome. He knew everything about BMWs. He even took me out to show his M3. It was such a great experience that is atypical of many CAs.
He also mentioned that the N20 was modified from 2013-2014. It sounded better than my 335i and that is no BS! |

Maybe you tried a 428i with M-Performance parts or something, in all news releases/data there has been no indication of drivetrain updates in the 2014 model year. Let us know if you have any other details.

It should be common knowledge that sales guys do not know the cars they sell that well.

engine could have been tuned a little differently but i highly doubt it was "changed"...i've not read a single thing saying such and BMW would have surely disclosed this...with that said, i think some of the 328i owners just have to accept the fact that something was done with the 428i to make it sound differently and better...i can attest to that and so can a lot of other owners and test drivers

He also stated that there was nothing documented about the change. It was subtle, but better nonetheless. Go test drive a 2014 and let me know what you think. I have nothing to compare it to besides a 528i that I test drove two years ago with the N20. |

But that does not mean he was an expert on the N20 or 4 series. Like I said in another thread, BMW trains it's techs on engines and platforms to a level a CA just is not. I have direct info that the N20 is not changed for the 4 series.

Im glad you know for sure. Maybe they did add some sound modification, who knows. It does sound awesome, though. modified would have been the proper term. They could have done something with software that wasn't really documented for the public. |

I just advise to take anything technical from a CA's mouth with a grain of salt, even if this one was better than typical. Good. That means he only said two inaccurate things in an hour instead of 20.
