iPhone5 and Galaxy snap-in adapter now available

Smartphone adapters are finally out! Unfortunately for my iPhone 5 brethren, we wont get the media version until 2014. At least I can run BMW apps with the Connect version. I'll just plug in my iPod for music until the Media comes out. Sorry about the quality...

The SA that gave me this info said that the connect wouldn't play music, but according to the bulletin, the connect version "'includes the same as the Media snap-in adapter" and is specifically for vehicles with BMW Apps. Most of these SA's don't know what the hell they are talking about, so maybe it WILL play music and display media? Hmmmm...Awesome pricing, though.

I wonder why they need different versions, they all connect via USB to do the functions mentioned surely all they need is a general USB type holder that connects the phone to the car, to use all of those features in different cars you just use USB cable today and it works, so why the need for special cradles? $250 for what belkin or even apple sell for no more than $50 is nuts. better off with Brodit clip, then you can do all the functions and see the phone.

Well since I don't see an S4 in the list, I know that there is "No hope" for my Samsung Galaxy Note 3....

Updated:

an S4 one does appear to exist...

Agreed. I want direct physical access to my phone; and I don't want to spend 250.00. Simple USB cable does it.

I am confused. I currently have the Media adapter and my 2013 car has NBT.

Am I using the wrong adapter? What additional features would Connect give me?

The 2 issues I have with the media adapter are:
- when I take a phone call, it can cause the BMW Connected app or MOG app to close which then requires me to unlock the phone and restart the app
- doesn't support video

I wonder of the connected dock addresses these issues?

I'm not sure if it will address it. Doubtful. It looks like it's just a refreshed version for NBT-based systems.

The Lightning specification doesn't allow for video in the way the old 30-pin connector did. So there needs to be a converter (similar to Apple's $30 adapter) that does video processing, basically decoding from USB to whatever is attached.

Not sure BMW wants to invest in that capability.

On LCI models you need TV to get video out

If using iPhone 5 or 5s/c the cradle only gives you reception through the car Ariel - otherwise same as plugging in to USB

What a jumbled marketing mess. I think I'll stick with the USB cable or just bluetooth.

They're probably too big for the compartment for the adapter.
