unable to assign Sports Display to one of the presets
I am at the Sports Display and depress one of the preset buttons to save it, but get unassignable error message. What am I doing wrong? I've seen posts where they had the sports display as one of the presets so I must be doing something wrong.

What Menu are you trying to assign it from?
I have it set on my car, IIRC you couldn't be ON the sports displays themselves to try and set it. If you go through the Idrive menu to get to the sports displays when you get to the menu that has it, roll the Idrive knob over it and THEN assign it. I believe that should do it. I think there's a few other areas that have a similar behavior, they can't be set from the screen but can be set from the menu.

Just like if you wanted to assign XM radio as a preset you need to do it from the Radio selection screen. If you just hold the button while in the radio channel selection, it will assign what channel you have selected. It is a little confusing, but it makes sense based on how the rest of the UI works. I don't even remember how to get to the sports displays through the menus I just have it set up as a preset.

Think of it this way: You are not saving the final destination screen, you are saving how to get there.
Thus, when you are one screen away from what you want to save, highlight the function you want to invoke. Then, instead of clicking down on iDrive, press and hold the numbered function button. This selects and saves the feature you want. |
