Good phone mounting setup anyone?
So I have been thinking about doing a install for a phone mount in my 328Xi with factory nav.
I have see the pro-clip mounts but I do not like the way they obscure the air vents on either the door side or in the center near the radio. The ideal one would be like the A-pilar mount that pro-clip does for the F30 but they do not do one for the E9X The brief would be: - not to obscure any of the dials, vents or switches. -no damage to the cars interior -A location that was easily visible while driving (for the V1 app and trapster) -Strong enough to old the phone securely -Enough room for the older to rotate between portrate and lanscape -Good rooting for the power cable and close to a power source in the car -As close to a factory look as posiable. Any suggestions or examples Thanks in advance James |

Steelie.
So far, the best phone mount I've seen: http://www.niteize.com/collection/steelie.asp I have one and absolutely love it. Qualifies to almost all of your requirements. The only disadvantage is the second part of the magnet that sticks to the back of the phone.

I thought the same thing about the Proclip, didn't like the idea of it obscuring the vents, and tried several different mounts. Once I got them I didn't like any of them, they all had a flaw or two I couldn't live with.
Finally broke down and bought the Proclip, installed it and now love it! I purchased the Angled mount version with a swivel holder for the phone. I mounted the Angled mount just to the right of the buttons between the center vent, basically straddling the line separating the buttons and the right center vent. Mounting it there still gives the driver and passenger full access to their respective vents with no airflow blockage, and the driver can still access all the center vent buttons. Mounted there the phone is also easily viewable and accessible, which is great since I use my phone as a Nav device quite often. I also mounted a USB charge point below it in the center console, allowing the phone do be charged while mounted. |

I've been researching how to best mount my phone in my 328. I also use my for navigation and music, and the speakerphone, since my car doesn't have bluetooth ($1000 to add, according to my local BMW dealer!).
I keep coming back to the ProClip, as the best solution for me, and your photos have helped to confirm that. Thanks for those. What I'm even more interested in is: How did you do the USB charging mount point? I'm surprised at how challenging it appears to be to mount a phone on the dash (for navigation, phone) and charge it and listen to music from it simultaneously. All of the cable options seem to assume I want the phone in my center console, i.e. they're too short. |

I just pulled the trigger on one today also. Sold at the apple store, FYI.
Doesn't look like it will swivel though, blocked by the tab on the vent for changing air flow. Any workarounds? Also, any incognito charging setups? My lightning cable originates in my centre console and I don't like the look of it visible from there to the vents. Suggestions? |

I was riding in an acquaintance's car once and saw this... Even though it's allegedly safe according to the website, I still have a tinge of doubt about it... But perhaps worthy of your consideration?
