Any correlation between tunes and excessive carbon buildup?
It seems with the large amount of fuel being dumped into an engine that really wasn't designed for it, could cause more carbon buildup.
i had an early JBD and, man did it throw the codes and it went through DEF, like there was a hole in the tank. Since I removed it, no problems. Last edited by Twilight1; 09-17-2013 at 07:41 AM.. |

in theory, a JDB is just jacking up the fueling, so yeah, there should be a correlation.
I've just installed 1 on my car and find that I don't really ever use the extra power it gives - i'll probably spring for an Evolve tune or a eco tune from someone |

the JBD doesnt really jack up the fuel during normal driving though, at least not a significant amount. The bigger difference is when the fuel pressure skyrockets under heavy throttle, but thats when the EGR is closed anyway. Its probably "likely" that if you having a driving style that promotes faster carbon buildup and you have a JBD, it might build up marginally faster than the same car/driving style without JBD, but the difference is going to be really very small.

that seems likely. Though I havent noticed frequent regens. In fact from some other reviews it seems like I get fewer than the average, I notice one maybe every 750-1000 miles? That could be due to any number of things though, comparing before and after on the same car would be more meaningful

As of late I've been hammering on the car. The JBD is set at 100% and I'm running a 7% ASTM B100 bio diesel blend along with Motorcraft's Diesel Performance Improver (Cetane boost). The car is noticeably quicker with the the B100 and cetane booster. Only when I really drive the car hard, WOT each gear either in DS or manually shifting for an extended period (say an hour or more of driving like this) do I noticed the car going into Re-Gen more often. Driving the car as a normal person getting 28mpg I notice the car doing a Re-Gen every 1.5-2 weeks and I drive 60 miles minimum per day 5 days a week.

You'll smell it and the fan will run for several minutes after you have stopped if the temp is not back in range when you shut her down. You also may see a little soot on the back of the car. Air hose takes most of that off without washing.
