Insurance coverage while on track

I've read that most insurance policies don't cover any potential issues coming from a day at the track. I need to read my policy in detail, but I'm assuming it wouldn't cover anything.

It's disappointing to me because I was hoping to take advantage of the track days my local BMW CCA hosts. What do other people do? Risk it? Is there some other special type of insurance you can buy for the handful of times I'd track the car?

Thanks!

This is totally a personal decision. Can you walk away from a 45k+ car? If you can't go with these guys: http://locktonmotorsports.com/product/track-insurance/

PS: I have never heard of any standard insurance policy that will cover damage or loss during an HPDE event.

Coming from an Insurnace agent myself, 1 800 NO Coverage! However, since not everyone is truthful, usually some other sort of story is made up naturally and what do you know...car gets fixed. Shocker huh? And we wonder why all of our rates are so high... hahaha. We just cant beat the insurance monster can we???

A friend says it better to find newly paved open country roads if you are going to 'track' test for 1/4mile and 1/2mile or break the standard speed record for your F30. Round my area...they are plenty and not hounded down by too many local sheriffs...as long as it doesn't get contagious...Southern Oregon in the US is known for having some of the best roads.

The exclusions sections of policies will typically say something about "racing surface" or some other text that will exclude track use.

Definitely go with Lockton if you want coverage, otherwise it is self-insure + manage risk while on the track.

Yep. Most people don't realize an insurance company can have a person criminally prosecuted for fraud in the event the company finds out. And with track day photogs and social media, you never know when your incident is gonna pop up on facebook or an internet forum.

I use lockton, though their premiums are nearly 50% of the cost of the events I attend. At least for ~45k in coverage.
