You'll have to check it. I fly all the time and I try to avoid checking anything. I've had a few things stolen in the past and that's w/ a TSA lock. The Chicago Police told me everyone has the key to those locks so they are useless. I also used to check my gun in when traveling to the West Coast but stopped b/c I dont want that stolen either. Funny story...one of my friends saw his Ping clubs being dragged by a cart at the Philly airport. I would recommend shipping. Maybe the baggage handling is better up North

If it won't fit in the overhead compartment or underneath the seat, and you are flying on a public carrier, you'll need to check it.

LMAO AHAHAHAHAAHAHAH
Maybe I should have changed my wordings. I was asking if I could check it in and they would bring it on the airplane. I didnt mean like I'd litterly put it over top of my head and bring it on the airplane |

Better pack it well. We've all seen luggage that looks like it was driven over by a bus.

Ship it!!! No way that is getting through 2-3 separate handlings, from the baggage workers, during the trip with out getting damaged.
Save your self the headache and extra money to repair, and just ship it. |

OK...the revised wording helps.
You should ship it. If you have an appropriate shipping container for it, yes, you can also check it and have it arrive with your other baggage at your destination. Whether it goes to your destination on the plane you fly on or on another plane depends on how much time before your flight's departure you check it in. Just be sure to put some strong string around the outside of it and use duct tape or something similar to protect the box's edges and corners from splitting. You can pretty safely be assured that the baggage handlers will be tossing the box around. Also, write the word "FRAGILE" on all sides of the box. It'll still be tossed about, but perhaps with less force. Finally, if the value of the bumper is higher than the standard coverage your airline provides, insure it. Oh, one other thing. I'm assuming you have status with the airline and will not have to pay to check it. If you do have to pay, you may want to compare the cost with shipping via UPS or DHL or FedEx, or the USPS. I would use the USPS. All the best.

I'm pretty sure it does not fit as a checked luggage in terms of dimensions. Call your company, my bet is that you'll have to pay extra for it. You may be able to have it checked as a "gate" item, that avoids most of the handling by careless airport workers.

Man id ship it. I work at an airport so theres going to be an oversized baggage charge. About $75 . Plus it has to go down the belts and even if you put a fragile sticker on it they arent going to be that careful with it.
