Gas tank lid won't close e92

Frustrating my gas tank lid wont close all the way. I have an 07 e92 and its not the lock unlock feature. Its the little buffer stop thing that has a spring that pops out. So I took it out and for some odd reason it is stuck in the out position and wont go back into its dang hole. Has anyone else had this issue? My car is still under warranty but should I just buy a new one or is this going to be a continues problem? I heard if you have subs in your car ( which I do ) it can cause an issue? Thanks

Try unlocking/locking your doors.

believe me I tried that its not that. Its the lil rubber stopper not the lock unlock bar.
