When do you buy a new car?

Its a hassle to buy a car as once you bought it you look at depreciation costs which then makes you get up and say i need to get a new car before i lose out anymore some time later.

What does everyone here do:

I buy a brand new car ever 2 to 3 years and sell my old one privately thru Autotrader.

I tend to change mine before they reach 30,000 miles.
A tad extravagant perhaps, but it works for me.
I sometimes sell privately depending on what the dealers prepared to offer on a P/ex.

I think a high value BMW is a slightly unusual case. Personally, it depends on mileage. I'm doing abut 20K a year and will sell my car within the first 2 years, so that it will go back on the dealers forecourt and will still have warranty left.

I change mine between 12 and 24 months usually because I get bored with the old one.

Usually 6-10 months, but I will be keeping this car for a couple of years, due to an increasing family!!

I kept my last car 6 months, but couldn't afford to run with increase tax and fuel costs... the BMW is still expensive, but I won't change it for 5yrs and most likely just keep it after that as it will have high mileage.

We have been buying AUCs for the last few cars but last time bought new as the discount was the same as buying a second hand one, but we got a newer plate. We normally keep our own car for around two years, but don't know this time as the car was new and not six months old. Our last e46 went with 22K miles on the clock, we normally only clock up around 10K a year, although currently averaging about a grand a month.

A 350d could well be on the cards in 2009.

Regards

Chris
