Post New Police Radar in Houston??

So I just got pulled over for speeding in the Houston area and the ticket says I was caught by his radar gun but my Escort Redline never went off and it's never done me wrong before today.

Either he was lying and wanted it to seem legit on the ticket (because I never asked him to show me my speed on his gun) or there's a new radar gun that my detector can't pick up. Has anyone heard of a new radar that came out or something?? I appreciate the input.

Great start to my morning lol it didn't help that he was a douche. I understand giving me a citation that I deserved but his rudeness is what made me angry. Sorry for venting haha!

No new frequencies permitted by FCC. Did LEO write down make/model/serial of radar gun on ticket? Some states require this as it can be used as a defense if the radar gun has not been calibrated, etc...

Possible gun has POP mode and your Redline may not support POP or may have it disabled. Also, most states and ALL manufacturers do not permit/recommend using POP for determining actual speed. Its designed to get an idea of speed then gun is supposed to be switched into regular mode to get your speed for ticketing purposes. Maybe Texas is different???

Or, maybe he used Lidar??

I'll have to take a second look at the ticket when I go to lunch but I'm pretty sure what I saw on the ticket was a box asking if the radar was calibrated (RADAR CAL was marked as yes). I've never seen a TX ticket until now lol so I'll have to explore it in the daylight. I think the Redline does have POP detection but I might be mistaken. Any takes on that? I'll have to look into that POP rule for TX...thanks for the input!

I honestly think that he crept up on me and gauged my speed by comparing it to his own because I had my cruise control set 3mph above what he said I was doing lol

I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary lately. Radar picking up everything as usual. Only thing I have noticed is driving right past a few with lasers and my detector never going off, but more than likely he didn't laser me.

Honestly, my detector has always been awesome. For a couple of weeks I noticed that it didn't pick up any radar even though I drove past several cops so I assumed that they just had it off. I was beginning to worry because I saw a cop with his radar gun and my detector didn't go off but then it went nuts for a few days two weeks ago lol they were all out fishing for speeders. I reviewed my ticket and there is no mention of radar use-- only that the radar was calibrated. I was told that I can request the evidence that I was speeding to be shown to me in court and if it can't be supplied then they will drop it. I don't know what evidence they would show but it's some sort of light at the end of my tunnel lol. It was in Manvel on my way to work.

I believe POP is disabled by default and must be enabled in settings menu. Google it. LEO did not write down make/model/serial of radar gun?

Its possible your detector has problems...

If he did he likely must indicate so on ticket. This way you have a valid right to require the LEO bring in certification his speedo or VASCAR device is calibrated.

The officer did not write down anything about radar detection as far as I can understand from the citation. I'll probably just have to go to the courthouse on the day assigned and talk to the judge. But I think it would be wise to prepare some questions or arguments to fight it because "ain't nobody got time for that!"

Assuming you don't have legal expertise, I think you need to check TX law pertaining to requirement for ticket to disclose detection method, etc. Representing self in court is not easy and the LEO likely has way more experience than you inside the courtroom. You need to know how to motion the court to comply with law, dismissal, etc...

Or, hire a ticket lawyer and let them defend for you.

Thanks for the advice. I agree with you! They have a lawyer on site that discusses cases and options with the defendants but I'm not sure if they'd be willing to cover something like this. I might have to just talk to a lawyer to handle it for me.
