Side light activation off remote fob

Hi Guys,

I have a 2007 facelifted 1 series M Sport and I have just noticed that when I open the car using the remote the side lights and puddle lights in the handles come on for about 1o seconds or so(the cat has xenons).

My 2006 330i M Sport tourer does not do this(no xenons/but has pro nav with i-drive). I have trawled the i-drive to see if I can make the adjustment but I cannot find anything.

Is it possible?

Does your E90/91/92/93 do this?

Steve

Hi, if you have the light switch set at the auto position, the side-lights (welcome lights I think they are referred to in the manual) come on when you unlock... in addition to the lights in the door handles.

Hmmm - maybe its because it doesn't have xenon's. Is it the 'rings' that come on when you unlock the 1?

I'm guessing the 330i won't have the Corona rings for sidelights as it doesn't have xenon?

Just checked my car and only the door handle lights light up when I unlock the car.
Lights are set to auto aswell.
My xenon corona rings do not light up.

same as Chris33.. I have only the door puddle lights come on... no rear or front corona rings light up.

When exiting the car, you can use the "get me home" feature which will only work if you pull back on the indicator stalk. It is not automatic like in Mercs and other cars. Would be useful if the lghts came on automatically when unlocking.

Hmmm - very strange. Either its specific to the coupe...? or later built cars. Someone should be able to confirm.

In a similar vein, can you get the electric fold mirrors to work off the remote key fob?

I think I remember my Salesperson saying he thought this could be programmed by the dealer, but not by ourselves. I think you would hold the lock button down on the fob to fold the mirrors in, and when you unlocked they would automatically unfold.

I thought it was a standard feature if you had the powerfold mirror option?

If I hold my lock button any windows left open will shut and the mirrors fold up.

Press the unlock and they fold back down.

Another good feature is if you leave them folded up if you are going through tight traffic etc as soon as you reach 25mph they fold back down on there own.

Chris thanks. I have just been out to the car and tried what you suggest. The windows go up and down on the lock/unlock (I wasn't aware of that feature) but the mirrors do not fold in and out. They only work when I press the button on the drivers door, next to the wing mirrors adjust button. Maybe the mirrors have to be programmed by the dealer.

I think you've got to have your DRLs activated to make the corona rings come on when you open with the remote.

Regards

Chris

Welcome lights (rings, tails and doors) come on only if you have the light switch set to the auto position. At least that's how it is on my E91 and my sister's E87.

I have a feeling that there were a load of posts about a year ago that the ability to fold the mirrors from the key fob had been deleted. Some mention of it here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...irror+fold+fob

Mine doesn't do it.

My mirrors are not just the powerfold ones.

They also have the auto dim feature as with the rear view mirror.

Maybe thats why they fold off the fob?

my 2005 330i does not have xenon's, but when i unlock the car the door handle lights and side lights/rear lights come on, the car always has the lights on auto so dont know whether it would work on 'off'

'fraid not Chris. Mine are the auto-dim ones and I can stand there all day without them folding from the fob. I wish they did as I keep having to go back and do it.

+1, it is frustrating, I keep forgeting to fold them in. My brothers cra***y Renault scenic mirrors fold off the key (or it may be the ignition) so why don't BMWs??? I would have thought twice about paying extra had I known they don't fold on the key.

How strange?? wonder why my car does it then? Emma's mini mirrors also folded/unfolded off the fob.

Maybe BMW have to activate it then? saying that though, my car came with it as standard.
