VMR recomended me a square setup for my XI.

Staggered people tend to get 19s in 8.5 et35 and ~9.5 et33 for a nice flush setup. Does getting a narrower wheel in the rear change what offset i would need? and i notice the staggered setup runs thicker tires in the front (245/35/19 x 275/30/19)...

I would assume the standard square setup is 19*8.5 et 35 (front and rear) 245/35/19 (f) and 245/30/19 (r)?

Until i talked to VMR i was set on getting staggered so all my research has been about that setup. Any help would be great because i want to order these yesterday!

You can run staggered. Just make sure the rolling diameter is the same. I'm running 19x8.5 +30 with 235/35/19 on the front and 19x10 +22 with 265/30/19 on the rear and have no issues. You should keep the rears at +33 and up if you don't want to modify your fenders.

When people refer to a square setup it generally means all 4 corners have the same wheel and tire size. There's no reason to get square wheels and different size tires.

I would get a staggered setup, but like Goldenc said, the rolling diameter of the tires needs to be the same front to back.

And, referring to your first question, it depends on what other offsets are available in the wheel. If you're going from a 9.5 to a 8.5 wheel it will be ~13mm less flush with the fender.

On some wheels yes. Others no.

why did they recommend you go with a staggered setup?

vmr said tire rotation mainly, plus the xi is wanting all tires to spin at the same rate and having bigger tires/wheels in the rear might mess up the xi system. i dont know if that only matters if you are racing around town, i do hear staggered works just fine too. im just not quite sure which way is best.

The end result of running staggered with the right tire sizes is exactly the same as a square setup. All 4 tires will have the same (within 1%) rolling diameter.

RWD guys go staggered to get more meat out back where their cars puts the power. Us XI guys only go staggered for looks, as obviously we don't need the extra meat out back.

You can do whatever you think looks best, don't let a vendor talk you into something you don't want to do.

It's very simple....

- If you run a square setup, you'll probably run a 235/35/19 on all 4 corners.

- If you run a staggered setup, you'll probably run a 235/35/19 up front, and a 265/30/19 (or 275/30/19) out back.

If you REALLY wanna be cautious, you can run a 225/35/19 up front and a 255/30/19 out back. That's what BWM "recommends" and the size tires you'll get if you buy a 19" wheel and tire package from BMW.

So staggered setup, 8.5 et35 9.5et33 seems ok to run with the 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 tires? vmr is also recommending 45 offset tires to make sure there is no problem but i dont want to have to get spacers later. Plus im hoping as I asked above, that the VB3 or 718s would be more concave with the 35 offset

The wheel width and offsets you mentionedwill work just fine with a 235/35/19 front and 265/30/19 rear.

I don't what you mean by "vmr is also recommending 45 offset tires to make sure there is no problem". Tires don't come in offsets, and an offset of 45 won't work for ya. Just go with what you posted and you'll be bueno.

Posted this on the other recent XI wheel fitment post, but thought it'd be helpful here too. It's not exactly an answer to your question, but it is a good reference for what the max fitment is, so everything smaller should fit. 18x10in is the largest stock setup possible. I currently run this and it fits. It almost scrapes the shocks and wheel wells, but not quite.

My current setup:

Suspension - Stock 2007 335xi Sport

Street Wheels - Avant Garde M359 square with 235/40/18 HTR ZIII


Track Wheels - Apex Arc8 18x10 square with 265/35/18 Nitto NT01
