Brake Pads

Has anyone toyed with changing pads in hopes of limiting this crazy brake dust? I'm looking for feedback from peeps w/ Stock M-Sport or M-Performance brakes.

Before doing that, clean the wheels like mad and spray on ArmorAll wheel sealant. The rest of their products suck, but this one is the best. You will find the wheels stay cleaner longer and when you do clean them it's easier.

For pads, I had Cool Carbon on my E92. Not sure if they have anything for the F30, but they were great performers and reduced the dust. Sadly, in most cases, dust=performance

I actually had my wheels opticoated. That helped A LOT but they still start to get a bronze tint to them in a few days of normal driving... best part about the opticoat is that they are MUCH easier to clean. I just think if its not raining and I keep my car in the garage and drive 20 miles a day, after a week, the wheels shouldn't need a detail!

I think I'm hell bent on getting the M Performance brakes so I would need new low-dust pads for that system. I can give up a bit of performance since I don't track or anything.

That leads me to another question - are the pads in the stock MSport brakes the same as the pads in the MPerf brakes?

Why not go with the OEM non-M Sport pads?

That's definitely an option. So the Sport pads are different (less dust) and are a direct fit?

Yes, at the expense of bite. I drove a 335 Sport and the brakes inspired less confidence than my smaller brakes with the MSport pads.

Hmmmm.... I may have to look into that. So could you put the Sport pads in the MPerformance brakes?

Off topic but I have a question....I just got my first BMW and my F30 brakes have lag in it. Do any of you have it as well? I've only gotten my car for 3 days only. Is this a common issue people are having or just me? I tried parking my car and when I tried to brake the car it kept going like a feet further, even though I pushed it all the way down. I almost hit the car because of the lag brake, also happens when I'm stopping at a stop sign or on the road. It scares the hell out of me and I don't feel safe at all, I'm going to the BMW Maintenance place to have them look at it.....I just want to know if this is a common issue that people are having with their F30 because I only see squeaking sounds and dust break issues in this forum only. Can someone please help

Sounds a bit extreme, I would have it checked.

But in general, a brand new car, or brand new brakes, they have a coating, and need to be broken in. Braking improves once broken in. But what you are describing sounds like it's a bit more then that.

To the OP - I needed track pads for my stock 328i brakes. There were no aftermarket choices so I bought set of OEM pads and sent them to CarboTech to have their friction material bonded to the OEM backing plate. If I was in your shoes, I would do the same, but have them install their 1521 compound (http://ctbrakes.com/brake-compounds.asp#8). Great bite, little to no dust, and very rotor friendly.
