How do I tell if my m sport has the m suspension or the m adaptive suspension?

It is adaptive if there is a dfference in ride firmness switching from sport to comfort, if "chassis" is configured in iDrive. Physical check, swing the steering on to lock and take a look at the front suspension strut, you'll have a valve block sticking out of the side of it, bit bigger than a walnut with wires attached.

As an example...

I'd assume you could find out by checking your VIN also right?

It says M sport suspension - so I guess it's not adaptive?

your best bet is to do what HighlandPete says about examining it physically. Or when you configure Sport mode if it looks like this where you can choose to configure the chassis (suspension), you know you have it as well.

Remember some options (SAT, VSS) allow for the 'chassis' configuration without having adaptive suspension fitted, just adjusts the steering when chassis is configured and you toggle to sport.

The physical check is the easiest proof it is there.
