swapping housing of door mirrors

Hi,

is it possible to swap the shadow gloss housing from an m sport door mirror to one that comes without shadow gloss trim?

Yes you can. You have to remove the mirror and the body coloured casing. Once removed, just remove the exposed torx bolts and this will remove the gloss black frame.

i guess i should of ask this question much earlier. i did countless research for this and didn't get anything. i bought a set of folding mirrors on ebay for a very cheap price set of eletric folding mirrors plus switch for 240..but when it came it was much worst condition on the gloss black trim than mine was. eventually gave up and returned it.

raf..take some photos and write a tutorial =]

you can buy the frames that fit around the mirror from bmw for £22 each but i dont think you can change the triangle part that fits onto the door unless anyone knows otherwise?

even if you can move the trim, it will be a PITA to refit all the motors and bits then find out you done something wrong, by looking at the mirror casing it isn't that simply i guess.

it is easy to replace the trim around the glass, ive done it and it is very effective, worth £42.

Yes, its definetely very easy to do. I haven't done it on my E92 but have on my E87 (same mirrors).

Don't think that can be swapped hence I'm looking at painting options!!
