Seatbelt & Airbag Light Turned On while Driving...?
Sup guys,
My Sister owns a 06 325i. For some unknown reason her seatbelt and airbag light came on while driving. She shut the car off, waited several minutes and restarted it but the lights still came back on. There were two adults in the front seat with their seatbelts on when this happened. Any ideas what this could be?

Interesting; mine just did this today. The only difference is that my lights go away when I restart the car.
I recently had some body work done to the car that involved removing and reinstalling some of the airbags. I'm going to be taking it back to the body shop in the next week or so for them to address it, as this has happened twice since I picked the car up and I assume they are related. Interested to see if anyone can chime in with a definite cause.

Not sure about the seatbelt but the seat occupancy sensor mat has been know to die in the e46. Could be related. I would have the safety system checked, isn't that part of a state warranty law? Can't remember check owners manual depending on mileage. |

Those lights will come on when the cables beneath the seat are disconnected or interrupted. It's not possible for them to be disconnected without someone physically doing it - probably something else at play here. I agree it could be the weight sensor (that's how the car decides how much force to deploy with the airbag). You should see a dealer or indy shop (probably dealer for this one); the passenger has no airbags at all with those lights on.

Its a 10 year recall if it fails in that time they fix if but you have to have certain build dates. |

google "e90 oc3 seat occupancy sensor"
known issue that is covered for certain years and models. basically there is a mat in the seat cushion that is fucked. dealer may or may not repair. fight with bmwna (corporate) to get the work done. or get the car coded to ignore it. |

I'll have her try taking off the negative battery cable for 10 mins later tonight.
I googled e90 oc3 seat occupancy occupancy sensor but couldn't find anything definitive. Anyone know where I can locate the TSB?

If you take off the battery terminal
You may come up with error codes on the dash which will go away when you drive the car a little . Like 4x4 and brakes they will go away by the time you drive it to the end of the block. They will also be logged in the cars memory.

The sensor material in the seat is defective design and fails. If you have this one, it will be covered by BMW whatever the status of your warranty. The other one is the electronic in B-pillar airbag. It is not covered outside of warranty, and I don't remember well but I think it is even not covered by CPO. The cost was in the $300 for repair. The most anoying thing is that the B-pillar trim has to be remove and will usually squeak after it has been remounted :/ |
