Bought a 2009 335i, Noise and Engine Malfunction Help Please!

So I just got my 2009 335i m-sport 6mt, today was the first day I got to take the car out on the highway after hand washing it myself for about an hour. I'm the second owner.
I was driving for about 20 miles, everything good (other than some squeaking from the doors which I searched and read is quite common on the e90).

About a mile away from home, I was in 2nd gear and I pulled to about 5500rpm-6000rpm when I heard a popping/break noise immediately followed by a sharp decrease in power and a bogging sound when I tried to accelerate again.
No message came up until I continued driving, and after trying to gain some speed several times, a "Engine Malfunction. Can Drive. Drive to closest BMW workshop." came up with a yellow engine light in the dash.
The car has a bogging sound and seems to have no boost. All my happiness from the car just went down the drain.

Restarted the car, the message is not on the dashboard anymore, but the car still drives the same with the same sound.

I assume the Engine Malfunction Reduced Power is the limp mode? Could my turbos have gone?

Hpfp? Charge pipe? Can you read the code it threw?

I'm def not an expert but I doubt it's your turbos. They don't just go out like that I believe.

Sounds like the diverter valve or similar popped off.

Thank you all.
How can I read the code? No number or code came up on the screen.
I was just reading yesterday about the wastegate problems that can result in turbo failure in the N54 but I have no clue what happened to my car today.

I have to drive about 35 miles to the dealer, should I tow the car? Can I tell by looking if it's the charge pipe/diverter valve/hpfp you guys mentioned?

EDIT: Forgot to mention the car starts fine and idles fine.

+1. Have read so many threads on HPFP failure and its symptoms. Sounds like that's what you have. Luckily, should still be under warranty.

I've never heard of a hpfp making a popping or breaking noise. It could be a lot of things but unless you have the tools or know how to self diagnose it you should take it in for service asap. If the engine malfunction light turns orange/red do not drive the car, you will cause serious damage to it.

Probably a popped off charge pipe or a broken diverter valve.

Popping noise could be a misfiring. A bad coil or maybe it's time to change the spark plugs? No 335i owner should be without a code reader. Get one! All the best.

Your car transformed itself into a 328i.

This is also my guess. Fairly common and a simple fix. A quick visual inspection under the hood should let you know pretty quickly if this is your problem. Check the charge pipe at both connections (IC and TB). They pop off sometimes and just need to be tightened back up. Your car will run and idle fine but you wont build boost, and when they pop off they can sound like a gunshot

For those who guessed a popped charge pipe that's what it was. At least by inspection.

Took it to the dealer earlier today and the SA had a feeling it was that, he showed me what exactly popped off after he popped the hood. My car is getting serviced and an oil change and I hope it should be good soon! Thanks for the support!!!
