comfort access problem. any ideas or help needed
everything else works except door unlock, lock feature.
my car had no problems at all, but couple days ago i got a warning message on the display that the key fob battery is low, so i replaced the key fob battery. then now i cant lock/unlock my car by touching the door handle. both the drivers and passengers door handles are not working. i did not test my old battery because at the time i already threw the old battery out and i dont think replacing the battery on the keyfob would cause the door handle to not respond. i still can lock/unlock the car with key fob buttons, and start the engine without inserting my key in the slot. i lock my car and put the key fob in the trunk and try to close it, the trunk wont close the since comfort access system still can detect my key fob in the trunk. I tried checking fuse box but all of them are working fine. i checked my car's battery and it is still good, i think, battery load test gave me 13 or 14, i cant remember the exact number. my door handles are not warm. i tried holding key fob in the slot for 10 seconds method but not successful. I tried searching the forum but none of them seemed to fit/solve my case. well, taking it to the dealer would be my last resort since my car's warranty is expired. but im out of ideas and any help is appreciated, p.s.: how much would it cost to replace both drivers and passengers door handle with comfort access? |

are you wearing gloves?
have you tried wetting your finger tip before touching the door handle? seriously. there has to be a good conductive connection between you and the door handle. washing the car and getting the stream of water from the hose on the door handle (with the CA key in your pocket) will cause the doors to lock/ unlock each time the water touches the door handle. ...food for thought... |

Place the key in the ignition and start the car, let it run I think it was in the minute to two range. Remove key, get the hell out, and try CA entry again.

That would be awkward having to wet your hands first just to get CA to work
You: Takes bottle of water out or spits on fingers Friend: What are you doing? You: Just watch! You: Door unlocks, tada! But you know you didn't have to replace the battery in your key fob? if you insert it into the slot while driving it charges the battery up, well that's what I heard about mines but I don't know about CA Key Fobs. Replacing the door handles would probably range from $80-200 each. |

LOL on the wetting hands. I wouldn't doubt it if that helps. Every time I wash my car, it locks and unlocks itself when any spray jets hit either door handle. It's totally crazy how it's water sensitive.
I think BMW's design could be better here. The CA access points should be actual buttons rather than touch sensors.

Mine was doing the same thing, so i took it in for service. Apparently my car battery was the culprit and i got a new one. No more issues now. When your battery gets low, comfort features like heated steering wheel, seats, doors ect. are cut back in order to save power for start up.

Anything that goes wrong with a BMW is 1 of 2 things:
1. a sensor needs cleaning and/or changing; 2. a wire has come loose. This advice has saved me thousands. You just need to read up on sensors and wiring. |
