don't trust carfax. no accidents on carfax doesn't mean the car is accident-free

QFT

Carfax relies on body shops selling their customer data to them. Many shops do not do this, so a clean Carfax has absolutely no guarantee that the car is accident-free. The only thing I trust Carfax to be more-or-less reliable on is reporting salvage titles or theft, as these go through the DMV and are generally reported accurately.

Between the 2 cars I currently own I have over $30,000 in comprehensive claimed body work, and not a single mark on either car's Carfax. Food for thought.

Never let the dealer present the carfax to you. They edit stuff out before they print. Happened to me.

Ask the dealer to provide the weblink of the report, there is very little chance they can edit a PDF and post it on a Carproof site as a example.

The first one states that the car was exported from Germany to Charleston SC.

The second one has a salvage title.

I have been looking myself at e92's and e46 M's. Looked at a few and if I learned anything it was that carfax is worthless. If it shows something great, if it doesnt then that doesnt mean much.

Feel all the body panels to see if they line up correctly. If they dont then start feeling around with your hand to check for paint imperfections. If there are runs in the paint it has been resprayed.
