Winter Tires and Style 313 rims
2 part question.
Anyone here use their Style 313 rims with winter tires? And, anyone use 19" rim/tire combo for winter? I'm going to use the bimmer in the winter, there's no real $$$ savings in using the beater as I am still required to keep full insurance on it even if I won't be driving it. So I'll need some winter tires, just wondering what's most cost effective. If I can save a few extra $$$ by using the 313, then it's good. I'm in Toronto, so in most cases, the roads would be pretty clear when I would be driving. I don't see myself driving too often, with lots of snow on the ground. thanks. |

What tire are you going to get for the rears? You have the option of running 235/35/19 (3 tires available) on the front, but I couldn't find any tires that would fit the rear unless you decided to stretch 235s onto the wider rear wheels too. Running 19" winters is just not a good idea.
There are no snow tires available in: 225/35/19 255/30/19 265/30/19 and given the $265 a tire cost of the cheapest 19" winters on tire rack, I would recommend finding a cheap set of 17" wheels to throw some good (and much cheaper and better performing) 17" snows onto. Then you can have your summer setup and your winter setup and neither will be a compromise.

FWIW be careful picking out 17's. Make sure that the ones you get are known to fit over the brakes on your 335... not all do (most don't?) Either buy something from a vendor that specifically lists that wheel to fit your car, or buy the exact same wheel used or a used OEM wheel style that is known to have been factory equipment on a "base" 335i.

I wouldn't recommend running the 19" 313 wheels in the winter, primarily because of how expensive they are to replace if you damage one and traction in snow and I've wouldn't be as good with the bigger wheels. Plus you would have to have the tires switched every season which is a pain. I have the 19" 313 wheels on my car and bought a dedicated set of wheels and tires for the winter, so I can switch them myself whenever I want.

235/35/19 will fit the rear 313 with a stretch.
