Tire replacement gone wild!!!
I take my car in for new tires. Time to ditch the run-flats, so went with Hankook Ventus V12's. I ordered the tires from Sears online and went in for install today. All seemed relatively painless until the foreman asked me to come into the shop for a look at the wheels. Running on stock 189's and they damaged 2 of the wheels during the swap. Nothing major, just a few deep nicks that will be fairly painless to repair. I kept my cool since they were up front, honest and didn't try to hide anything. So I'll get the wheels repaired/replaced...whatever on their dime.
Here's the kicker. I get home and clean up all the residue from the install and shine the sidewalls of the new tires. I notice something is off. They installed both rear tires on the left side of the car and both fronts on the right. After a few quick measurements, I determined they at least have the wheels on the correct axles, but now I have to go back have them dismount, swap and remount the LF and RR. I'm not even upset at this point, but WTF?!?! and

Wait - you took your car to Sears and then act surprised that it is all messed up - sounds like you got off easy - go somewhere that knows what they are doing next time - Sears does not have the equipment to deal with the runflats nor the brainpower to deal with anything else.

I'll take the criticism for going to a place like Sears. Should have known better. However, as long as staggered setups and run flats have been around, one would think this is baked in at all tire shops.

Think about it. "Man I did this supercar car yesterday and balanced his shit to 1/100th of an ounce. And didn't even put a scratch on his wheels!!!" <--- and this dude gets $15 an hour. Thinking its a crap shoot in most cases.

Why would you goto Sears? You were asking for this to happen...

Seriously, Sears is old school, they stand by their products, etc. I just got a DieHard Gold ($119.99) battery for $61 due to a warranty on the standard DieHard in my Nissan which was 44 mos. old. IT WAS AN UPGRADE as my standard DieHard was a now $94.99 battery. Not only that, I took a junk battery out of my garage, and they gave me $15 for it. So something like the above, they rock.
But I would never take my Pilot Super Sports and have them mounted at Sears. I switched back to 215/55-16's on my Nissan--when I got those tires mounted the guy at Midas said the sidewalls were really stiff and the tires were difficult to mount. Imagine a 255/35-18 runflat or non-runflat. |

I took my Acura MDX to Sam's Club to have all 4 tires installed and balanced one time. They did such a bad job the steering wheel almost vibrated off in my hands.
Call me crazy but I have all my tire installs done at BMW. They do it right. They charge more but its done right. I even started taking my acura there to do installs. They kind of chuckle.
