Noob tire question! Help!

Thanks for looking, like I said, total noob question. But last night I ran over something pretty hard in the road, drove home, TPS sensor didn't kick on, parked in the garage.

This morning I had the low pressure warning. Looked at the front left tire and it's definitely low. Now I've never dealt with an RFT.

Should I add air and check for leaks or is an RFT pretty much done when it prompts that warning? Do I need to go to the dealer or will any tire shop work as long as the tire is available?

Fortunately I van pool to work so I didn't have to fret over it this morning.

Thanks for the response in advance,

You should add air in the tire to maintain proper in order to take the load off the sidewall. Depending on where and how the tire is punctured, runflats can sometimes be repair if the sidewall have not been driven on with no air. The dealer will of course try to sell you a new tire. Call your local tires stores and see who has the equipment to deal with runflats and if they are willing to repair one if repairing is possible. Also, depending on the age of your tires, you may need to replace both tires on the same axle.

Excellent, thanks for the information. I plan on calling today when shops open and there's access to air right down the street.

As far as resetting the tire pressure sensor (I'm on my phone so I can't search) can that be done through I-drive?

I had a nail puncture my left rear runflat. I found a tire place that will patch a runflat and they did it quickly. Drove for about 20k miles on it and replaced all four for 3rd gen runflats not for other issues. Good luck!

Thanks bud. The crummy thing is I was thinking about replacing the RFT's when the time comes. Now I'm stuck with a brand new one....tires only have about 8k on them too.

Decide what you want to do. Sell 3 used Michelins RFTs and get 4 new non RFT and be happy.
In the long run now is the time to do this. If time is pressing get the new tire. Tire Rack, Discount tire all have good deals on tires and will drop ship to a tire store in your area who can install them for you as well...

I'd bite the bullet and go with a 3rd gen set of RFTs, Michelin PS2s preferably. I've heard of some horror stories about patching tires. If it's not done correctly, you're playing with fire.

Thanks guys, well I've gotta drive outta town tomorrow so I needed fixed ASAP. I like to idea of buying 3 non rft's and selling but I'm a bit strapped for time. I just ordered the tire and gonna get it put on after work.

Any quick advice on resetting the tire pressure sensor warning? And does the new tire come with a new sensor? How does that work. I've done a bit of reading and found there could be different sensors for 07-09 cars and 10-11? Again sorry for the noob q's but this is my first experience with RFT's. Oh well this is how you learn right? Ha.

If there is a leak in the tread just get a plug kit and fix it yourself. What possible horror story can come from that? As long as there is a hole in tread and sidewall wasnt compromised (driven on) then you are fine just like a regular tire. They dont patch them much anymore...plug. I ate a nail and it was plugged and was perfect.

The TPMS is mounted on the wheel, not the tire. Unless you somehow damaged your sensor you will not need a new one.

ETA: Here is how to reset your TPMS if you don't have your manual on you (had to look this up because I don't have iDrive) : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...76&postcount=2

Thank you, much appreciated!

Not to get off topic but I see you have COBB, very nice. I was toying around with that idea for quite sometime. This tire could have paid for half of it....

Tires been replaced. Looked like a tiny pin hole right on the tread I could feel from the inside. It probably could have been plugged easily but I'm trying not to think about that.

Unless the tire shop reset the TPMS, when I got in the car it seemed to have reset itself. I watched him park it and it didn't seem like he was interacting with the idrive.
