No more "SES" light thanks to TORQUE APP :)
Wanted to share my accomplishment about he SES light. A couple of weeks ago my car showed yellow SES light but no other warnings. After reading codes at the auto store for free, these were P0128 and P0597. As we know it these codemeans a faulty or stucked open thermostat. The Auto tech mentioned that most likely I would have to change it. Since I am at 95k miles I think I will wait to replace it along with water pump. For now my car is working good no major issues whatsoever. I went ahead and decided to get rid of the SES light without replacing Thermostat for now by using the application TORQUE for android with my tablet. I bought the bluetooth adaptor for $15.00 dlls and was able to turn off my SES. This application is AWESOME!! Light has not come back. It has been over a week. I will keep you posted if light comes back or not. Cheers for now!!

Great app. I've been using it for a long time.
It also as the ability to create gauges and plots of almost every sensor in the car. It can give you realtime boost readings, etc. |

Yeah I know. Its time but I wanted to get rid of the SES light for now while I save money for the parts. So it works good for this circunstances. Lets see how long I go before SES light turns on again. Also, I am courious about testing the thermostat. I believe I can feel the hose for water runing while its cold. ( I believe water its not supposed to be running through radiator when its cold) right? Anyone knows which hose this is? Is it the top one by the fan? What if its a sensor and not thermostat? Thanks

Just go ahead and replace the thermostat. Wait on the water pump if you want to but thermostat is cheap enough to just replace. It'll make your water pump work less hard.
An overheated engine can do some serious damage. Save your headgaskets life! |

thanks for the feedback guys.
Iam not concern about the price of the thermostat but the pain is to replace. We need to remove the water pump in order to get to thermostat I belive. This is the only reason I m trying to delay the replacement. I believe my water pump still running good; Besides my car is not overheating, its the opposite, my car is running cold longer than it supposed to. I will read the engine temp with my TORQUE tool. Also to test the temp sensors as I believe this also may be the reasons Im getting these codes. Cheers! |

Yes, but iPhone won't allow you to use SPP over bluetooth with a non-apple certified device unless you're jailbroken so using one of those cheap BT dongles is out. They have wifi models like the PLX Kiwi that will work for Apple.

I just got the same set up and tried to reset my SES light but I am not doing it right. What are the steps you took to reset the light?

First step I did was to make sure the BT adaptor is plugged and the green lights are bliking green and yellow (this tells you that is sending info to tablet). Follow the same steps when connecting a phone to BT (bluetooth). Once is connected, start the car, make sure is reading the info such RPM's, coolant level, etc. Once you follow these steps, press menu on your tablet and go where is says "clear logs" this is where you want to be and turn off SES light. Once you get confirmation and it says cleared i believe then you re-start your car and SES should be gone. by the way my SES light has not come back since this procedure. Keep us posted. |

Thanks for the reply, i should have been more clear and i figured it out. I was able to connect ok to the module and get the app running and i scanned and then selected "clear to ecu" but it wasnt clearing the ses lght. so what i didnt know is if the car should be running or not, do i need to take out the fob or whatever and the different combinations of each.
The combination that worked for me was to put the fob in (engine off), scan then clear ecu, then take out the fob. I tried several variations before doing this and going into work. When i came back out and turned on the car, ses was gone! For the money, this seems like a no brainer. This could also be a perfect track day, autocross tool. Quote:
