Interesting.

Will read thoroughly later.

No problems that may occur by using it?

Run the car in first and all should be fine, I will not be red lining it at every turn, but having that extra punch will give it the edge. 5 minute fitment /removal and job done.

I take it, you would remove it when the car needs to go in for a service or anything?

Yep just remove it. I left it on once on my 640D M Sport, service never commented on it at all.
PS) very noticeable difference and if not thrashed more economy as well.

I think a remap is far safer. All these things do is fool the ECU in thinking is needs to fuel more and boost more. Fuel computer doesnt not read correctly either.

I put one on my old Vectra 3.0 diesel and it blew the fuel pump. Not to say that would happen with every car, but I'd use it with caution. Be safe and get a remap.

On a serious note, those toques are going to be epic as standard and getting them all down at once interesting.

This box would need to be very progrssive, like the really good maps.

I think tuning boxes have more of a tendency to trigger the limp home mode. Theres a guy on E90post who has one and I'm sure he says if it is set too high then the car goes into limp home mode.
Spending the best part of £40K on a car, if you really must increase the power\torque output then a remap has to be the way to go.

I fitted one to my new shape CLS350CDI and it just sent it into limp mode.

Also what if you have a serious accident? You won't be able to quickly pop the bonnet open and remove it so it will be very visible to the insurance company? A remap is far more discreet.

Can anyone recommend a good remapping service then..?

How do people think it will work with the Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport modes? Flicking from comfort into sport seems to change the midrange torque in my car. If I have it in flat out acceleration and move to sport there is no change in apparent power.

Does anyone think a remap and the BMW modes will play nicely together?

It'd be good to see dyno graphs of the various BMW driving modes if anyone knows of any?

I had my E81 re-mapped by P-Torque near Wolverhampton. Sure he'd be happy to answer any questions.

He came highly recommended by the guys over at babybmw.net. Did a brilliant job which involves analysing the car on the dyno before anything is done, discussing what you want, then applying your custom map. Following that he road tests the car, then lets you roadtest it for as long as you want, then only when you're happy with it you settle up. Cost me £400 (inc VAT) as I recall. The results were amazing, not only better all round performance but a slight improvement in mpg too. He also said that if by any chance the dealer wipes out the map he'd re-apply it f.o.c.

Was a 360 mile round trip to have the work done, but was worth every penny and I'd have no hesitation in going to him again.

PS - No connection with P-Torque, just a happy customer

Hmm, sounds like remap is the better option. Since I dont have much experience with these kind of things and the 330D is a massive move up for me anyway, prolly leave it for a few years then remap it.

Give it a refresh, for me anyway.

Did you disconnect the battery before fitting the box? That or you should open the bonnet and lock the car and wait until it goes to sleep.

Don't believe any statements about efficiency as they are simply not true.

All these resistor tuning boxes do is trick the car into putting more fuel into the combustion chamber than the ECU thinks is going in. If you add one to a car which doesn't have a DPF, you can see by the amount of soot that shoots from the exhaust when you floor it. The part of the car that calculates MPG does not know that more fuel is going in, so because you put your foot down less to get the same result, it reports you get better MPG.

I had one of my pre-LCI 320d for a couple of months and took it off in the end after deciding it wasn't worth the risk. It definitely added more torque, but it was a little embarrassing leaving a cloud of soot at traffic lights. So the other major concern is how it will effect the DPF over the long term, because it'll have a lot more work to do burning off all the extra black stuff.
