weird smoking
I was sitting in a drive through yesterday when I realized my car was smoking from the exhaust (2008 E92 335i).
The smoke was blue-ish in color and there was a LOT of it. Started almost billowing smoke for 5-10 seconds and then stopped. This is the second time I have experienced this, first time happened over three months ago, so it's not a normal thing. Any ideas?

no idea why, but i can tell you that it's oil that's being burned.

Same here! I notice it today when I parked, and My 07 335i is drinking 1/4 of oil every 4K miles. The Car is CPO and it is at the dealer right now for a regular oil change, I will tell them about this issue.
So, is this for real? Turbos are letting the engine oil go to the exhaust? Where did you get this info? |

The Valve cover gasket could be leaking, then oil drips onto the exhaust manifold. Our E46 had this problem. Blue smoke would come from the hood and wheel wells when the car was stopped at a light. I don't know about the E90, but the VC gasket failure is common on the E46. It is a relatively easy fix and BMW only charges an arm for it.
