It is not a factory option although most of the electronic provisions to support HUD are present in cars with Nav Pro. The reason no one (that I know of) has retrofitted it in E9x is because there are support beams welded behind and above the area where the gauge cluster lives. If someone were very insistent on having HUD, I've taken measurements with a dash out of an E90 and the 6 series HUD would fit with heavy modifications to the car. The hang up would be lack of available HUD windshield resulting in a ghosted image and RLS compatibility may be an issue. The dash can be cut to accommodate the HUD unit but a trim piece or bezel to cover the edges of the opening would have to be fabricated.
