Key in glove box
Hey guys to make a long story short I lost my key in Tucson where I go to school. Luckily I was planning on flying home this weekend to SD where I have my spare key fob which I can bring back to Tucson to use my car again. Before I go and spend 300$+ on a new key, I just remembered seeing a very plain looking black key fob in the glove box awhile back. I am wondering two things:
Does this key in the glove box unlock/lock the car and start it? If so, couldn't I technically now just use my spare key from SD now as my main, and keep this glove box one in my room or something as a new emergency spare. Thanks! |

I think you're talking about the empty key cartridge. It is designed to start the car when the plastic emergency key is inserted into it, then put in the dash ignition. It only works if you have the small black plastic emergency key. They deleted this extra on '07 and newer E9X's in the US. My '06 E90 had it, but none of my later cars. Now they just give you the two fobs, and no third emergency key.
