Bridgestone Turanza EL42's

So, I bring my car in last month and get the Turanza's replaced with Conti's. Zero cost to me since they have less than 10k miles.

Yesterday, my daughter brings her car in and gets it back today with new Turanza EL42s. I ask the SA what's going on, sice he said they replace the Turanzas with Conti's, and he says that Bridgestone "reformulated" the EL42s, and now they don't have the heel-and-toe wear they used to have.

Anyone have any info on the "new" Turanza's ??

Oh, and the SA wanted to charge me 50% for the four new tires - $368. He realized that there was less than 10K miles and the cost was zero. So, $368 for two tires - that's less than $200 a tire. Thought the runflats were much more expensive ??

Well, they did "reformulate" the Turanzas, but haven't seen anything about them yet on the web. Hope that is good news, as the new car I am expecting soon will probably have them.
Price you were quoted is very good....for a dealer, if it included balancing.

You were cutting it a bit close.

My daughter did say the new Turanza's seemed quieter. The SA did suggest bringing the car back in at 9500 miles to check the wear pattern on the new tires. She has 5200 on the car now.

I could definitely tell a big difference in the Conti's, in both handling and noise.

The price did include balancing (and weights).

The Turanza EL42 were recalled due to tire cupping issues which causes excessive road noise. Tires are not part of the service plan.

All four tires were replaced on both my car and my daughter's car. The problem affects the front tires more than the rears tires, and I guess it's up to the dealer whether the rear tires meet the requirement for replacement.

I also got mine replaced. They replaced all tires with the new reformulated ones. Since the problem was part of a recall and my car had less than 10K miles, $0 was the cost.

I think that we are incorrectly using the term "recall" with respect to these tires. That would imply that ALL of the tires are to be replaced (you know, like when a contaminated brand of food is recalled). But actually, there was a technical service bulletin which described the conditions under which certain tires are to be replaced (cupping), and mileage limitation. So tires are not going to be replaced just because we would prefer another brand.

well i bought the car w/ 9200 miles on it and 2 wks later i found out about the tires so i hurry my butt up there before i past the 10k mark (whew luckily i got there w/ a couple spare miles) SA was pretty nice and reschedule it in a wk still honoring less than 10K mark... so i was lucky hehe

so the conti is much better huh?

(either way im going to get 19's soon so its a win win siutuation to me..anyways.)

True, no recall. However, if you complain, the dealer will evaluate your tires, and replace them if necessary.

It just may be my perception, but the Conti's seem to handle better. My daughter was pissed she got the "reformulated" Turanza's, after I bragged about getting much better tires.
