Question How can you prevent....

How can you prevent that nasty film to stop forming on your headlight ... you know that nasty stuff that appears on headlights over time. Is there a way you can prevent it?

I had my TL for about 3 years and before i sold my car i started seeing signs of that nasty film crap on the top of the headlight.

I'm not sure what the proper term for it would be... and i dont have pics but im sure most of you know what im talking about.

What causes it sunlight?

I thought the same about bimmers... i had never seen one with it till yesterday ... it was an e46 and the headlight was so clogged up with that funky stuff it looked horrible... They were the non-xenon headlights too

Good question. I had a Lexus a number of years ago, and head light covers looked like crap after a few years from clear to totally crazed. Been thinking about clear bra to help prevent on my 335i.

2 options.

1. Get the clear vynil coverting on day one. Over time you can peel the old one off and put up a new one and the headlights will look like they did on day 1.

2. Toothpaste (say what???... yeah I said it). You'll be amazed how much of the yellow crap can toothpaste take off the headlight. Just some paste on a piece of cloth and really give it a rub.

Alot of threads on the clear bra with mixed reviews. My dealer can install, but expensive. I am not an expert by any means. Basically, a clear plastic film that can be applied to exposed surfaces, E.g., from bumper, head lights , and leading part of hood. Plastic absorbs the road abuse vs the paint. Overtime, I can see the plastic looking like crap and having to replace.

Autogeek.net actually sells headlight specific restoration kits. It comes with polishes and pads that attach to a drill to buff the headlights. Check it out.

+1, it's the UV and mother nature. If possible, try to park underground at all times if you are not driving on the road.

Have you used some of those? Do they really work?
